Lifetime Airing R. Kelly Documentary Despite Legal Threat

Lifetime is moving ahead with its plan to air a documentary on R. Kelly despite a legal threat from the R&B singer. TMZ reports that the cable network is resolute and plans to air the docuseries that kicks off tonight despite the threat from Kelly to sue for defamation.,

Kelly’s lawyer sent a letter to the network threatening to sue over Surviving Kelly, which they say is full of false and defamating information in regards to the allegations he had a sex cult. A Lifetime rep told the outler that the docuseries is going on as scheduled, noting, “Lifetime has always been a brand that champions women’s stories.”

The series will feature several people from Kelly’s “inner circle” coming forward with allegations that Kelly has sexually, mentally and physically abused women. Kelly’s lawyer claims that the subjects are making false allegations in order to become famous, and says they have proof the network knows some of the women are lying.
