Meek Mill Denied New Trial

TMZ reports that Judge Genece Brinkley has denied Meek Mill’s motion to get a new trial in his case, in spite of the fact the arresting officer has been accused of being dirty.

She said in a statement: “After an in-depth review of the record, court history, notes of testimony, and evidence submitted at the evidentiary hearing, this court hereby denies defendant’s petition for PCRA relief as defendant failed to meet his burden of proof.

The District Attorney of Philadelphia previously said that Mill deserved the new trial because his arresting officer, the only witness in the original 2008 trial, is involved in a huge police corruption scandal. Brinkley essentially said that Officer Graham can’t be dirty just because the officer who said he was was also dirty. She seemingly ignored the fact that Graham failed a polygraph about taking money. She said that even if Graham was corrupt, she believes it wouldn’t have changed the guilty verdict.

The Pennsylvania Supreme court released Meek on bail in April from a 2-4 year prison sentence, after a hearing for a new trial. His legal team plans to appeal the ruling from Brinkley.

His lawyer, Joe Tacopina, said: “Judge Brinkley made clear during the hearing on June 18th that she had already decided the matter. We continue to believe that this miscarriage of justice will be corrected upon further review, and that the public’s confidence in the impartiality of the judicial system in Pennsylvania will be restored.
