Metallica’s Grammy Performance Issues Due to Mic Accidentally Being Unplugged

February 13, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

The technical hitch during Metallica’s performance with Lady Gaga was reportedly due to an accidentally-unplugged wire. TMZ reports that the performance, which was marred by James Hetfield’s mic not working, was caused by a wire under the stage being accidentally unplugged.

The site says that according to sources close to the show, everything went fine during the line check just before the performance but that between then and the actual performance, a stagehand unplugged the wire by accident. That resulted in the mic being dead for most of the performance. The wire was plugged back in with seconds left in the song.

Gaga and Metallica performed “Moth Into Flame” for the show.
