Missy Elliott and Timbaland are the target of a lawsuit from a man who says he co-wrote Aliyah’s 1996 track “Heartbroken.” TMZ reports that Terry Williams has filed a lawsuit against the two, claiming he co-wore and produced the song Elliott in 1994 or 1995 and that Aliyah was sold the song without his permission. Timbaland was the producer of the song, and Williams says neither he nor Elliott compensated him.

Williams says he had an agreement with Elliott to share profits from the song, and that the song that Aliyah released was almost identical to his including the same lyrics. The track was on Aaliyah’s LP One In A Million, which sold 8 million copies worldwide. Williams claims he has ownership in the song and is entitled to a share of the profits. The suit also names Aaliyah’s estate as a defendant.
