ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports that one of the nuns in a legal battle with Katy Perry died in court on Friday. Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, who was 89, is battling Perry over the sale of a property in Los Feliz.

In a statement, the archdiocese said: “Sister Catherine Rose served the Church with dedication and love for many years and today we remember her life with gratitude. We extend our prayers today to the Immaculate Heart of Mary community and to all her friends and loved ones.

She was part of the order called The Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They owned a large hilltop property which used to be a convent. In 2015, they sold it to entrepreneur Dana Hollister, without the approval from Archbishop Jose H. Gomez or Pope Francis. After it was sold, the archdiocese called the offer a fraud and said Hollister didn’t have the authority to sell it. They battled over whether Hollister’s offer of $10 million was more suitable than Perry, who offered $14.5 million.

Hollister was trying to renovate the convent and turn it into a hotel and restaurant when she was sued. This started months of legal proceedings. In April of 2016, Perry won a decision from a judge, allowing her to buy it. However her bid has yet to be approved by the Vatican.
