UPDATE: TMZ reports that Roy Richter of the Captains Endowment Association, Emanuel Gonzalez’ union, denies the allegation against the officer. According to the outlet, Gonzalez denies any suggestion that he said that if officers saw 50 Cent they should “shoot him on site.”

Richter argued that it was 50 Cent who made a threat, having put Gonzalez at risk when he published a threatening tweet. TMZ says it isn’t clear which Tweet this might be, but it is possible the previously-mentioned Instagram comment is the message being referenced.

ORIGINAL: An NYPD officer is under investigation for an alleged threat against 50 Cent’s life. The New York Daily News reports that Brooklyn Deputy Inspector Emanuel Gonzalez is being investigated over a comment he made during a roll coll at the 72nd Precinct last June, in which he said if officers saw the rapper at a NYPD-sanctioned boxing match, they should “shoot him on site.” A witness said that “inspector just said that at roll call.”

Gonzalez said that the comment was a joke, but the matter has gone to the NYPD and an investigation has been lanched. An NYPD spokesman said, “The incident is under internal review,” with the site saying that according to a source, the internal affairs group which handles police corruption cases for captains and above is looking into the comment.

Part of the issue comes in the fact that Gonzalez, who is still on active duty during the investigation, has had an issue with 50 Cent before, when the rapper allegedly threatened him in an Instagram comment. Gonzalez filed an aggravated harassment complaint against 50 after the latter posted to Instagram commenting on a lawsuit that accused Gonzalez of getting NYC club Love and Lust shut down. 50 said “get the strap” — aka, “get the gun.” Gonzalez said he was in fear of his safety after several of 50’s followers threatened him. The rapper ended up taking the post down.

A rep for 50 Cent said in a statement, “Mr. Jackson takes this threat very seriously and is consulting with his legal counsel regarding his options going forward. He is concerned that he was not previously advised of this threat by the NYPD and even more concerned that Gonzalez continues to carry a badge and a gun.”
