R. Kelly Hit With 11 New Felony Counts of Sexual Assault and Abuse

R. Kelly’s legal woes have amplified on an exponential scale, as he was charged with 11 new felony counts of sexual crimes. As the Chicago Sun-Times reports, the R&B singer had several charges added by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office including four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of criminal sexual assault by force, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim between the ages of 13 to 16.
The charges relate to an alleged offense from January of 2010, and Kelly’s lawyer suggested that they are related to an alleged victim that was part of one of the previous charges filed against Kelly. The new charges carry a possible sentence of up to 30 years in prison. Kelly is set to appear in court in relation to the new charges on June 6th.
Kelly’s lawyer posted to Twitter stating that the charges are from old allegations:
#RKelly was NOT charged with a new case. He was recharged in an existing case, same alleged victim and time (a decade ago) It changes nothing

#RKelly These are the same conduct, just charged differently, same alleged victim, same time frame, same facts. We expect the same results

Kelly is out on $1 million bond from his indictment in February on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, allegedly involving four victims that are between 13 and 16 years old.
