Rihanna Reportedly Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show Over National Anthem Issue

October 19, 2018 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Rihanna reportedly turned down the headlining spot for the Super Bowl halftime show over the league’s handling of the players’ National Anthem protests. Consider the source when figuring out how many grains of salt to take this news with, but US Weekly reports that the NFL approached the R&B star about performing at the event, but she declined.

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” the outlet’s source said. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

Rihanna would not be the first to turn down the Super Bowl gig over the kneeling controversy. Last year, Jay Z reportedly did the same. Maroon 5 will perform at this year’s show, with Cardi B expected to make a guest appearance as well.
