Stevie Wonder took a knee during his performance at the 2017 Global Citizen Festival on Saturday night in New York City, and then followed it up by taking the other knee as well. Deadline reports that Wonder was performing at the festival in Central Park and was onstage with his son Kwame Morris.

Before he performed a medley of past hits that included “Higher Ground” and “Overjoyed,” Wonder spoke about finding unite and said, “It is only through life we can make life happen through ourselves and each other…Our global brothers and sisters, I didn’t come here to preach, but I’m telling you, our spirits must be in the right place all the time.”

Wonder then encouraged people to “stand down bigotry” and “condemn sexism,” asking that everyone “find love.” He then said, “I’m taking a knee for America — not just one knee, but both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, and leaders of our world” and got to his knees with his son’s help.

Wonder’s taking the knee came as the latest in a series of actions by sports figures, mostly in the NFL, in response to racial injustice.
