411’s ECW on Sci-Fi Report 5.19.09

May 19, 2009 | Posted by Michael Bauer

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

We open with Jack Swagger sitting in a chair in the ring, calling what happened to him at Judgment Day a travesty. He won’t leave the ring until he has justice and out come two referees. They try to talk him into leaving, but he won’t budge unless Blondie comes out herself. They try again and sure enough, Tiffany does come out to the ring. The crowd is pretty much silent for this. Tiffany send the referees to the back and tells Jack that they can discuss this backstage in her office. Jack won’t leave until she makes it right. Jack says that Christian cheated at Backlash and again at Judgment Day and is walking with his title. And it is Not Fair! Tiffany wants to discuss backstage and Jack says he ain’t leaving because he is the face of ECW and will be around a lot longer than her. He calls her temp and she grabs the microphone saying that she can make sure he never receives another ECW Title shot. She orders him into her office and Jack finally gets out of the ring. Tiffany apologies for Swagger’s actions and introduces the ECW Champion, Christian. Christian and Swagger meet and Swagger shoves Christian off the entrance ramp to the side. Christian is slow to get up as we go to commercial.

Non Title Match: Christian vs. Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea)

Christian is favoring his knee from Swagger shoving him off the ramp as the bell rings. Paul goes right to the knee, but Christian clubs Paul and brings him back with a go behind. Paul reverses a headlock with a go behind, but Christian goes down and kicks out. Paul is brought down with an arm wrench takedown, but is back up. Christian shoved off, he ducks two clotheslines, and takes down Paul again with the arm wrench. Paul throws Christian into the corner, Christian catches him with an elbow, but Paul kicks Christian in the leg. Paul send Christian to the outside and throws him knee first into the steel steps. Christian rolled in and Paul gets a two count. Paul locks in a submission hold on the leg and then stomps on the knee. Paul with a knee breaker into a back suplex for a two count. Paul backs up and misses the charge allowing Christian to hit a Tornado DDT. Christian unloads with right hands and hits a back body drop. Christian connects with the inverted DDT for a two count. Paul whips Christian hard into the corner, but Christian kicks out and gets a sunset flip for two. Burchill tries for a suplex, but Christian slips out and tries the Killswitch. Paul slips out and hits his suplex for a two count. Paul rams Christian into the corner with a shoulder block, but Christian avoids the charge and hits his ropes assisted flip kick to the head. Christian hits a diving uppercut off the second rope and connects with the Killswitch for the win at 8:45.

Match Rating: ** Good match as they worked the Christian leg injury perfectly.

Josh Matthews goes into the ring to get Christian’s thoughts on what Swagger did to him. Christian says that Swagger might not like what happened at Judgment Day and he will hate this. Christian says that Swagger had his rematch and he lost. He then challenges Tommy Dreamer to a match for the ECW Championship before his contract runs out in less than three weeks.

We go to commercial after seeing a picture of the Hart family trio standing tall over Finlay last week.

Backstage, Jack is still bitching to Tiffany about Christian walking around with his title. Tiffany is not only considering Christian vs. Dreamer, but she has already decided that Swagger gets the rest of the night off.

Zach Ryder vs. Adam Green

I am ashamed that Zach Ryder is from Long Island. Zach his a cheap slap to the face and he backs Adam into the corner and goes “woo woo woo”. Ok, that was homo. Zach hits a drop toe hold and an elbow to the back. Zach connects with a neckbreaker. Adam catches Zach charging into the corner, but Zach recovers quickly and grabs the arm of Adam as he kicks away. What the hell is with the “woo woo woo” as he locks in the neck vice. Zach stomps on Adam’s head and chokes him on the ropes. Zach backs off and hits a leaping standing legdrop. He literally legdropped a guy standing vertically… dang. Zach finishes it off with something that looks like a reverse Playmaker for the three count at 2:30.

Winner: Zach Ryder

Match Rating: ½* Not even a good squash match.

We gets highlights of DH Smith making his ECW debut and the Hart Trilogy dominating Finlay last week. Backstage, DH Smith to getting ready and he calls this week nothing compared to what will happen this week. Natalya says that his father would be so proud. DH agrees… because he is better than he ever was. WOW! That is blasphemy!

ECW Rewind is the latest Kozlov domination of a jobber… leading to Kozlov coming out in his Russian Army uniform. Uh oh, this can’t be good. Yep, he speaks Russian and then says the Russian Army is the greatest in the world and he is the greatest fighter in the ECW. There will be no retreat and no surrender.

We then go to Gregory Helms. He says that Tommy Dreamer’s Championship Match for the ECW Title will happen on WWE Superstars. Dreamer thanks Christian for the title shot and he says it shows what type of man and champion he is. Dreamer’s time is running out and he will take advantage of the opportunity.

Finlay is walking as his match is next.

David Hart Smith (with the Hart Trilogy) vs. Finlay

You have got to be kidding me. The Hart Trilogy comes out to a modified version of Bret Hart’s theme music… oh, these guys are going far. The bell rings after Finlay drops his favorite weapon and DH Smith backs Finlay into the corner, but Finlay powers out to just get backed into another corner. Finlay finally escapes and locks in a headlock and hits a series of European uppercut. Finlay connects with a short arm clothesline and gets a one count. Finlay goes out, Smith goes in, and Smith catches him with an elbow to the back. Finlay whipped off the ropes and he hits another clothesline for a two count. Finlay with a keylock and he drops a knee to the bent arm of Smith. Finlay goes back to the key lock and Smith finally gets his foot on the ropes, but Finlay locks it back in immediately. Smith again gets his feet on the ropes and he pounds the elbow again. Finlay goes back to the key lock and Smith tries to keep his shoulders off the mat. Smith finally gets to his feet, but Finlay drops him right back down. Smith again to his feet and he hits a knee to the gut to escape. Finlay grabs Smith’s head and keeps him in a dragon sleeper until he his a neckbreaker for two. Smith goes outside and Finlay kicks him in the head. Finlay follows him down and Smith hits the British Bulldog’s running powerslam on the floor! We go to commercial at 6:00 as both men are down.

Back at 10:00 and Smith has Finlay in a chin lock and he decks Finlay with a huge blow to the face. Smith hits a backbreaker and gets a two count. Smith drops the knee to the back of Finlay and goes back to a chin lock, driving the knee into the spall of the back. Finlay gets to his feet and hits a jawbreaker. Finlay rolls to the floor and hits a shot to the gut and a kick to the chest to down Smith as he is pulled onto the apron. Smith quickly back on the attack and he drops a knee to the back. Kidd tries to get in the ring and Natalya send her boot into the ring. Smith grabs it and nails Finlay with it so hard you can hear the clunk. Smith grabs Finlay and hits a high angle back suplex for the pinfall at 18:45.

Winner: David Hart Smith

Match Rating: **1/2 Felt kinda slow at times, but a very well fought match for Smith’s ECW debut.
