411s NWA:TNA Xplosion Report 08.15.04
THE SYNDICATED VIDEO PACKAGE THAT HASN’T BEEN CHANGED! ARE YOU READY??????
Mike Tenay and You Know Who open up the program.
NWA World Tag Team Champions The Naturals vs. Tai Smiley & Mark Mayer – Yes! We’re back to the jobbers not getting ring entrances. Stevens starts by locking up with Mayer, nicely rolling him to the mat to get a two count. Stevens back him into the corner and tags in Douglas. Douglas goes to work with some chops and chokes. Mayer ducks under a clothesline and gets a dropkick in. Tai Smiley tags in. Douglas runs into an elbow, allowing Tai Smiley to jump off the second rope with a bodypress. In the second time in weeks that relatively normal spot has been done, this is the second time it’s nearly blown, as Douglas barely catches him to perform the powerslam. At the very least, Douglas seems a tad pissed off with himself, so it’s forgiven. Stevens chokes Tai as Douglas distracts the referee. Stevens throws Tai into the corner, and immediately clotheslines Tai for two. Stevens throws Smiley up into the air, but in mid-move, Smiley connects with a dropkick. Douglas runs in, allowing him to take Smiley out. Stevens jumps off the top rope, and Smiley brings his boot up. Wow, I didn’t know that spot was still done outside of bad indy shows. Mayer tags in, getting a flying forearm in on Douglas. Smiley gets a variation of the Shining Wizard in on Stevens while Douglas is able to get his knees up when Mayer tries a top rope move. And more impressive on The Naturals’ part, they’ve changed their finisher to allow Stevens to bring his opponent (Mayer) up and over his head out of the inverted DDT position instead of the ridiculous headscissors spot. Natural Disaster! That’s it at 3:15. I love it.
Video of David Young getting his first victory in a particularly horrendous match is shown.
Cody Steele vs. Abyss – Abyss is without Goldylocks. He charges Steele, only for him to move out of the way and land a second rope dropkick. Abyss is still on his feet. A flying clothesline doesn’t take him down either. Abyss catches Steele going off the ropes and devastatingly throws him up and down to the mat. Cody tries to hop up over Abyss’ head, but promptly gets punched in the back. Big corner splash by Abyss. Running Shock Treatment backbreaker, and that is it at 1:30. The lack of Goldylocks made the match all that much better.
Photo montage shows 3LK earning their Tag Title shot only after Dusty Rhodes made his voice heard.
Scotty Matthews vs. Bobby Roode – Scotty is particularly jacked. For whatever reason, D’Amore isn’t with Roode. But he does have a Canadian flag and a hockey stick, so it balances out. They circle each other before locking up. Roode backs Matthews into the corner, and we actually get a clean break. Roode takes him down with a wrestling hold and slaps Matthews’ head a few times for fun. Matthews and Roode exchange go-behinds. Snapmare from Matthews is followed by a swift kick to the back. Roode begs off, but shows his smarts by connecting with a boot to the stomach. Corner kicking and choking by Roode. Matthews connects with a boot, but isn’t able to escape a full nelson slam that gets two. Matthews connects with an enziguri. He whips Roode into the corner and gets a nifty jumping knee in. Matthews places Roode up on the top rope and connects with a nice jumping kick. He isn’t able to keep Roode up in the fireman’s carry position, though, as Roode plants him with a release overhead suplex. Big lariat to the back of the head, called the Great White Knockout, gives Roode the win at 3:45. I’m kind of starting to like Roode. He is, however, in desperate need of a better finisher.
Clips of Sabu and Raven having their battle last Wednesday night.
Monte/y Brown vs. Jack O’Reilly – Monty immediately attacks, as per the usual. Monty throws the jobber to the floor, and goes to work with some nice right hooks. Straight punch to the O’Reilly’s face. Back into the ring. Here’s a reason why people are dead wrong when they call Monty a generic hoss. He short arm clotheslines O’Reilly, holds onto the arm, does it again, and while still holding onto the arm, connects with a T-Bone suplex. Here it comes. Wait for it, wait for it… POOOOOOOOUNCE! As you can expect, that’s it at 2:00.
Photo montage of the X Division Gauntlet. I almost pissed my pants when La Park walked out, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
TNA Cam with the untalented 3LK tandem. The Naturals better be ready to do the uhh, do.
TNA Cam with Scott D’Amore (Team Canada in tow). He quickly tells Chris Sabin that he’s sadly mistaken if he believes he can take out Williams, while telling Dusty Rhodes that he needs to stay out of their business unless he “wants to be run over by a twelve hundred pound juggernaut.” D’Amore then proceeds to bust out, “Huss! Huss! Huss!”
TNA Cam with Kid Kash and Dallas, which actually features Dallas briefly speaking.
TNA Cam with Ron Killings, who tells Monty Brown that the one thing he has to fear is the Suntan Superman.
TNA Cam with Monty Brown. Do you know what Ron Killings is going to feel? You guessed it; the POOOOOOOOUNCE!
In a particularly packed Wednesday night PPV…
A Hangman’s Horror Match between Raven and Sabu will take place
In the second in their Best of Five series, America’s Most Wanted will face XXX.
Ron Killings and Monty Brown promise to tear the roof down.
AJ Styles will take on Kid Kash in an X Division Street Fight
Chris Sabin will try to take the X Title away from Petey Williams
The Naturals are set to defend their TNA Tag Team Titles against 3LK
Every match tomorrow night (well, with the exception of the last) has potential to be great. I’ve been picking and choosing what shows to order as of late, and this is one of the few shows in recent months that I will undoubtedly be getting.
