Ricochet NXT 1-23-19

Moments ago ~ Ricochet arrived in Full Sail.

The Velveteen Dream comes out to start the show. He says he has something special in his sights and he waits for no man. He has the sparkle of championship gold in his eye. Specifically, the North American Title. He gets interrupted by the theme of the Undisputed Era. Adam Cole is out, flanked by Bobby Fish. Cole tells Dream to pump the brakes because they will win all the titles in NXT in 2019. They don’t like being goldless and that will change soon, while Velveteen can dream on. Bobby throws some insults at Dream and Dream agrees to fight him, but only if Adam said it was okay. That angers Fish, who charges in. Dream sends him packing and avoids Cole before escaping.

The TakeOver: Phoenix card is run down.

A special video package runs to hype Shayna Baszler vs. Bianca Belair.

LAST WEEK ~  Kassius Ohno beat Keith Lee and was chased off by Matt Riddle. Ohno vs. Riddle III goes down at TakeOver on Saturday.

Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs. Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel

My kind of wrestling. Marcel starts against Oney. Oney with a chop but then gets pounded on in the corner. Quick tags from the European tandem as Oney gets worked over. He finds a way out and tags Burch, who lays into both opponents. Burnch with a leg trip slam, uppercut, and corner enziguri. Middle rope dropkick, kip up, and tag. They go for the finish but it gets interrupted. Barthel hits the Air Raid Crash. Aichner turns Oney inside out with a clothesline. Stalling brainbuster from Aicnher, tope suicida by Barthel, and a double springboard moonsault from Aichner gets two. Powerbomb/blockbuster spot is countered as Oney turns the back half into a rana that he rolls through into a half crab. Burch tries putting Marcel in a submission but he fights free and breaks up the half crab with an enziguri. Boots all around. Aichner is the only one left standing. Oney with a series of shots and European uppercuts before a dive outside takes out Burch and Barthel. Aichner follows with a massive plancha that takes everyone out. Oney avoids a springboard and steals it with a school boy.

Winners: Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in 4:48 [***1/4]

Bobby Fish vs. Velveteen Dream is our main event!

A video package airs hyping Tommaso Ciampa vs. Aleister Black.

Amber Nova and Tanea Brooks vs. Io Shirai and Kairi Sane

Io and Nova start. Io does a bunch of cartwheels and such to avoid a shot. I lost connection during this match, so I missed a good chunk. I got it back on Io pops Kairi up into a sweet elbow. Kairi then helps Io on an assisted moonsault. It seemed to go about three minutes and was a squash but I missed most of it. Sorry.

Winners: Io Shirai and Kairi Sane in 2:51 [NR]

Backstage, Io and Kairi say that nobody can stop them together. Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir interrupt. They sarcastically call them adorable, welcome Kairi back and say they’ll send her back to sea.

Bobby Fish w/ Adam Cole vs. The Velveteen Dream

Dream catches a Fish kick and sends him off the ropes. Shoulder block from Fish sends him down. Fish avoids the Dream Valley Drive but eats a dropkick. Dream ducks a kick and hits an axe handle. Fish rolls outside for a breather.Dream fakes them out on a plancha, hops back in and hits a springboard dropkick. Cole avoids it but Fish takes a double axe handle. Back inside, Dream beats on Bobby while trash talking Cole. A distraction from Cole allows Fish to pull him outside and kick at his leg before hitting a dragon screw. Fish remains in control by targeting Dream’s knee. Dream fights back and slaps Fish in the corner, only to get kicked in the leg. Fish catches him in a kneebar. Dream is in agony as he struggles to fight to the ropes. Cole talks smack and pulls the rope further away from his grasp. The referee catches him. That opens the door for Dream to rally. His leg gives out on the DVD attempt, but he still sends Fish outside into Cole. Fish rushes in, only to get hit with the DVD. One legged Purple Rainmaker ends it.

Winner: The Velveteen Dream in 8:29 [***1/4]

LAST WEEK ~ The Forgotten Sons attacked The Street Profits. They meet next week.

NEXT WEEK ~ Io Shirai teams with Kairi Sane to take on Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.

Ricochet makes his way out for his confrontation with Johnny Gargano. He addresses Johnny, saying he talked a lot of crap about being better, only to blindside him with a cheap shot. 2019 Gargano is the same as 2018 Gargano. He showed his true colors, is a liar, and only cares about himself. In 2018, Ricochet showed his true colors and won the North American Title. He’s something Johnny isn’t. A champion. Out comes Johnny, saying in 2018 he’d have jumped him. But 2019 Johnny has a plan. As soon as he hits the ring, Johnny attacks. Ricochet catches a superkick and knocks him outside. Tommaso Ciampa sneaks in and clocks Ricochet from behind. Johnny stares at Tommaso as the fans chant “DIY” and “Yes.” Johnny beats on Ricochet as Ciampa applauds. Aleister Black hits the ring to attack Ciampa. Johnny sees it and considers helping. It takes a moment, but he does. Johnny takes Black out with a superkick. Ciampa pounds on Black as Ricochet enters and takes a beating from Johnny. They both hit signature moves and walk towards the ramp together. Uneasily, they head up the ramp, not taking their eye off each other out of mistrust. Ciampa offers a handshake, but Candice LeRae comes out to stop Johnny. She scolds him for considering this and says they aren’t going through this again.
