411’s WWE NXT Report 8.16.17

NXT Roderick Strong Drew McIntyre

The show starts with commentary hyping tonight and some of the TakeOver card.

William Regal is in the ring and he brings out Asuka and Ember Moon for the contract signing. Ember speaks first, calling Asuka one of the most dominant champions in WWE, beating women from Raw, Smackdown and NXT. However, Ember’s the only person Asuka took shortcuts with. Asuka shoved a referee and attacked Ember before TakeOver: Chicago to avoid her. Ember says she refuses to be a victim and is better, stronger and faster than ever because of those shortcuts. As a way to thank Asuka, she’s gonna end her reign of dominance. They sign and Asuka begins yelling at Ember in Japanese. They have a staredown while Asuka holds the title high.

Earlier today, Lars Sullivan entered William Regal’s office, asking for another tag team match. He gave his word that he wouldn’t assault his partner if he took the loss.

Chris Silvio and Lars Sullivan vs. The Street Profits

Lars wants to start, but Silvio runs in. He gets taken down by Dawkins. Ford hops into the crowd to hype what just happened. Dawkins slams Silvio and we get the basement dropkick/splash combo. It ends with a fancy handshake. Silvio gets a boot up in the corner, but has his tag cut off. Ford tries knocking Lars off the apron, but he doesn’t budge. Ford decides to avoid him and brings Silvio back to their corner. 360 Stinger Splash by Dawkins and he tags out. He hits a popup spinebuster and Ford wins with a frog splash.

Winners: The Street Profits in 1:41

The Street Profits quickly head to the back. Sullivan looks like he’s going to destroy Silvio. He aggressively grabs him off the apron, but carries him backstage to safety. Or so we think. He carries Silvio outside and beats him up. Mauro says that he promised Regal he wouldn’t have an altercation with his partner in the ring, so he technically kept his word. He dumps Silvio in the garbage.

Billie Kay w/ Peyton Royce vs. Ruby Riot

Billie avoids a tie up and taunts. She does it again and taunts with Peyton. Ruby avoids a trip by Peyton and rolls Billie up for two. She gets one on a few more pin attempts and then mocks their taunt. Billie throws a fit. Billie kicks out a sunset flip and hits a weak looking kick. Her clothesline for two looks much better. Ruby fights back with forearms but runs into a convoluted looking Eat Defeat. Billie throws another fit when that only gets two. She uses a nice looking takeover and works the wrist. Ruby fights out and kicks at Billie’s legs. She hits a dropkick and an attack in the corner. Billie avoids another and gets driven headfirst into the corner by Ruby’s knees. Peyton tries to intervene but eats a kick. Billie wastes time by talking smack, allowing Ruby to hit a Pele type kick to win.

Winner: Ruby Riot in 4:07 [*]

Post match, an angry Peyton Royce grabs a microphone. She says lightning can strike once, even if you’re a gross, tattooed loser like Ruby. She will never be iconic.

Commentary runs down the TakeOver card. It leads to a video package to hype AOP/SAnitY.

Drew McIntyre vs. Roderick Strong

We get a clean break from Drew and they lock up again. Drew slams him to the mat. I know they met in Evolve before, but their size difference looks crazy here. Strong leaps over Drew twice and delivers a leg lariat for one. He quickly goes on the offensive. His next corner tip up is countered with a boot and Drew throws him around. They go outside and trade big blows. Strong drives Drew backfirst into the apron, but then gets launched into the ring post. They trade shots on the apron and Strong wins out with an enziguri and then a back suplex onto the apron. After a break, Strong is pounding on Drew in the corner. He fires off kicks and knee strikes. He wears Drew down, who fires up and snaps off a belly to belly throw. Back to trading blows and Drew wails on him in the corner. He goes up top and comes off with a big chop. He hits the reverse Alabama Slam for two. Strong comes back with a knee and a backbreaker for two. Drew cuts Strong off up top and follows. However, he gets crotched and gets hung in the tree of Joey Lawrence. Strong hits shots until Bobby Roode comes out and knocks him off the top.

Winner via disqualification: Roderick Strong in 8:57 [**3/4]

Roode gets in cheap shots on the helpless McIntyre. He goes outside and throws Strong into the steel steps. He gets in the ring with the title and stands over Drew. Drew grabs at him, but gets planted with the DDT. With Strong barely able to stand outside, Roode does the GLORIOUS taunt.
