411’s WWE NXT Report 9.26.18

Tommaso Ciampa NXT 92618

I dig the new WWE signature intro.

William Regal makes his way out to the ring to kick off the show. He speaks about the Aleister Black situation, but gets interrupted by the Undisputed Era. Adam Cole runs him down for not doing his job. Black is out of commission and that’s on Regal. It’s in the past and Regal should be focused on preventing that from happening to anyone else. Roderick Strong says they need to figure out a way to stop the cosplay vikings, War Raiders, from their sneak attacks. Kyle O’Reilly doesn’t feel safe at work. Regal thinks it’s interesting that they interrupted this, implying they might be behind the attack. They got in Regal’s face, saying he’s changing the subject to give the War Raiders their freedom and avoid the fact that Ricochet has dodged giving Cole a title shot. Cole wants his rematch right now. Regal says Cole never asked for a shot and seemed to be happy to wait until Pete Dunne softened Ricochet up. Regal won’t give him the shot now because it wouldn’t be fair, but he can have it in two weeks. However, the match will include Pete Dunne in a triple threat match for his interference last week. He tells Kyle and Roddy they’ll defend their titles against the War Raiders in three weeks.

Earlier today, Johnny Gargano was interviewed about returning to action next week against Tony Nese. He says it feels good to be back. They asked why he was sorry after his loss to Velveteen Dream. He says it was to apologize for losing in NXT Title matches and for who he was becoming. He needed to get knocked down to turn himself around. He can’t be Johnny Wrestling sitting on his couch. He meets up with Candice LeRae, only for Lacey Evans to come up to them. She says a good lady and good wife would fight beside her husband and not keep things separate like Candice is trying to do. Johnny holds Candice back from retaliating.

A Lars Sullivan vignette runs.

Admittedly, I had some connection issues here. I missed part of a Velveteen Dream interview. He seems to have implied that Tommaso Ciampa attacked Aleister Black. He’s no snitch, but the writing is on the wall.

Lars Sullivan vs. Victor Walker

I think this is the dude’s name. Sullivan clubs away on him in the corner. He delivers a popup powerslam. That gets followed by simply tossing his opponent back and forth across the ring. The last one sends the jobber outside. With Lars distracted, EC3 runs out and attacks him for a DQ.

Winner via DQ: Lars Sullivan in 1:27

EC3 fights Lars and manages to clothesline him over and outside. Lars gets back up to fight him off, but EC3 manages to send him back down and gets the better of Lars. Lars smiles as he leaves.

Backstage, Regal was asked about the status of the Aleister investigation. He still needs answers he says. Nikki Cross bangs on his door and exits his office. She wants to play with Bianca again and needs a rematch. Regal says he’ll get back to her. She says, “I KNOW” over and over before leaving. It could’ve been about Aleister, but Regal says nobody knows what NIkki knows.

The Mighty vs. The Street Profits

The Mighty come out with a solo cup and wearing chains like the Street Profits. No dancing from the serious Profits tonight. The Mighty mock the Profits with their stuff, so Dawkins lays out Thorne with a right hand. The match begins with Dawkins wearing out Miller. Spinning corner avalanche. Tag to Thorne just sets up a double facebuster by Dawkins. Ford gets the tag and hits an INSANE tope. He avoids a Miller attack, causing Miller to run into the steps. Tag back to Dawkins, who hangs Thorne up with Snake Eyes on the ropes. A distraction leads to a Thorne dropkick. The Mighty use quick tags to keep the pressure on Dawkins and rack up some near falls. The hot tag to Ford doesn’t take long and he fires off impressive shots on everyone. The numbers game becomes too much and he is sent into the ring post. He slips off the apron and gets his leg caught in the steel steps. Thorne kicks the steps into him, smashing his leg. Now, Ford is the one getting worked over. Ford gets put in a figure four but uses some strikes to break free. Ford pulls the ropes down on an interfering Miller to send him outside. He goes for the hot tag but Thorne holds his foot back. Ford gets free and we see a double clothesline. Miller tries pulling Dawkins off the apron but gets kicked away. Ford slips free only land weirdly on his leg. Dawkins gets hold back while Ford is pulled into a figure four jackknife pin that ends it.

Winners: The Mighty in 7:39 [**1/2]

Non-Title Match: NXT Women’s Champion Kairi Sane vs. Vanessa Borne

Borne goes right to Sane’s hat and wears it, before kicking it away. That makes for an angry Sane, who wins a shoving match and hits an axe kick. She blocks a back body drop but takes a twisting suplex for two. Borne goes to the mat with a neck wrench. Sane fights out, hits some axe handles, and nails the Interceptor. Kairi walks the plank and hits the Sliding D. She goes up and connects on the Insane Elbow to win.

Winner: Kairi Sane in 3:05 [*1/2]

Shayna Baszler is out to stop Kairi’s celebration. She tells Kairi to enjoy it now because it’s not going to last. She admits the loss in Brooklyn hurt, but she’s not taking it out on Kairi now. She’ll invoke her rematch clause and when she does, she’ll drop anchor on this reign. Kairi holds her hand up and gets a microphone. She says, “Ahoy,” and agrees to the rematch, but for it to go down at WWE Evolution. Shayna likes the idea.

Earlier today, Keith Lee was asked about what’s next for him now that he’s 2-0. He says being undefeated means he’d like some gold. Some NXT gold going forward. He entered a room where Kona Reeves was getting his hair done or something. Kona is a dick to Lee, psyching him out on a handshake and saying nothing about him looks limitless. Lee calls Kona the man with the finest set of losses in NXT and he’ll give him a chance to bask in his glory.

Next week, EC3 vs. Lars Sullivan! Plus, the Forgotten Sons!

Non-Title Match: Otis Dozovic vs. NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa

Ciampa’s opening headlock fails as Otis is too big. Otis sends him down with a shoulderblock and dumps him outside. Back in, ciampa uses an elbow, but gets caught leaping and Otis hits a spinning body slam. Otis remains in control and teases a dive when he knocks Ciampa outside. Instead, he does the caterpillar (WORM) and gets in his mind games. He stands on Ciampa, using his weight to his advantage. Ciampa gets free of Otis’ grasp outside and drops him on the guardrail, looking for a countout win. That fails, but Ciampa is in control. He hits a few knees for two and adds a neckbreaker. Otis fights bakc and sends Ciampa into the corner. Avalanche and toss follow. Ciampa catches him with a knee, only to walk into a clothesline for two. Ciampa grabs his title and walks off, but Tucker Knight gets in his way. Otis levels Ciampa and send shim back in. Another avalanche. Overhead belly to belly throw. Repeat. He adds another throw outside. Inside, he adds an elbow for a near fall. Otis fights off the Fairytale Ending and catches the champ with a sitout powerbomb for two. “Otis” chants. Ciampa escapes to the apron and pulls Otis out with a draping DDT onto it. Ciampa adds one inside to win.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa in 9:35 [***]
