John Cena’s John Cena WWE Smackdown

– John Cena recently appeared on E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness, here are some highlights of his appearance, courtesy of Paul Jordan and PWinsider.com. Cena discussed his relationship with Edge and them both overcoming critics at the time, their matches and funny stories from their time together.

John also discusses working with talent like AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura and others. Cena talks about the difference between promotions and the main WWE roster including NXT into the mix saying that it takes more than just wrestling ability to connect with the audience. Talent needs to take chances and really embrace what they’re given to make it their own. He talks about complacency waiting to be given direction instead of taking charge.

John Cena discussed his latest rivalry with Roman Reigns and what he hopes The Big Dog can take from it going forward. He discusses how this above any other time in WWE there’s more chance for creative freedom given all the platforms and programming they need to supply. John discusses the new mindset when it comes to big matches being put on the network for smaller shows. When asked why Undertaker versus John Cena has not happened at Wrestlemania, John says simply that that match never really factored in in the past when plans were created.

Most interestingly, John Cena said that at 40, he is not retiring as of yet but realizes that his body will not be able to do a full schedule for WWE, saying that he had conversations with himself about when he gets a step slower it’s time to bow out before he becomes one of those guys. He realizes that he’s had a long run then probably should’ve been. John states that he is very thankful for the run he has had and that he’s willing to do anything Vince needs him to do but these “asks” need to be more selective, not only for the company’s future but his health and personal well-being as well.
