As previously reported, NJPW President Harold Meij will be departing from his post later this month, soon to be replaced by NJPW of America CEO Takami Ohbari. Meij’s exit has once again sparked speculation about AEW and NJPW possibly working with each other in the future. AEW wrestlers Evil Uno and Orange Cassidy certainly seem to be aware of those rumors based on some recents comments they made this week via their official Twitter accounts.

Orange Cassidy tweeted yesterday (Oct. 9), “When is BoSJ?” Best of the Super Jr. is a NJPW tournament that’s currently slated to begin later next month and conclude in December, along with the World Tag League tournament. Meanwhile, AEW’s Evil Uno wrote, “Evil Uno wonders about the World Tag League.”

Earlier this week, a top name in AEW told Fightful Select, that Meij’s NJPW exit would not hurt a potential future partnership between both wrestling promotions. The anonymous name stated, “It definitely won’t hurt things. Most people here are still in touch with the people over there and Meij had alienated a lot of the English-speakers they had on the roster. There wasn’t a lot of belief in him to begin with, but the way he handled that wasn’t good. Tony (Khan) has done his best to keep it amicable.”

It was reported earlier this week by Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio that there are currently no plans for a working relationship between NJPW and AEW. Additionally, it was also noted by Meltzer that the current state of the world with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, shutdowns, and various travel restrictions would likely prevent such a relationship from happening right now if that wasn’t the case.

Regardless, the tweets by the AEW wrestlers certainly got the attention of the internet wrestling community. You can check them out below:
