In an interview with Adrian Hernandez (via Fightful), Angelo Dawkins spoke about the advice the Street Profits got from John Cena backstage at WWE RAW this past week. The team appeared with Cena on camera and then spoke to him off camera. Here are highlights:

On talking with Cena backstage: “We got to talk to John a little bit off camera. He just gave us words of encouragement, he’s big fans of both of us, just keep doing what we do. Giving us advice on evolving and improving ourselves and making sure we never get comfortable being in the spot we’re in, even though we’re in a pretty good spot. Wanting more, keep wanting more, keep improving, don’t stop. The work gets harder as time goes on and you keep getting more responsibilities. We want those responsibilities. He was just telling us that.”

On being frustrated at a lack of TV time years ago: “I’d be lying if I said that there wasn’t. There was a little bit, but it was one of those things where we both had to sit down and be like, ‘Alright, why weren’t we on the show?’ He didn’t start until 2015, I didn’t start until 2012. There were a lot of people at NXT that had been wrestling double digit years while we were in middle school. They had been around the world and all that stuff. It was a mental thing like, maybe they didn’t feel like we were ready. I had been wrestling, at that time, five or six years. Him, three years. The furthest we had ever gone was, California, maybe. We had dudes who had been around the world, like Japan, England, Australia, just traveling around the world and finding themselves so when they got to NXT, they were already made. We were still finding ourselves in a way where, even though we were cool and knew each other and goofed around, it was, ‘how can we make this translate into the ring and into promos?’ Once we got to that, it was, ‘now we’re clicking.'”
