According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (via wrestlinginc.com), WWE has made some major changes to the planned Universal title match at the Royal Rumble PPV. Finn Balor was originally going to challenge Brock Lesnar, but sometime on Sunday or Monday, plans changed as Vince McMahon reportedly feels that Balor is not over enough. Balor lost clean, via submission, to Samoa Joe on last night’s Raw.

There was speculation that they may run Braun Strowman vs. Lesnar, but the match doesn’t make much sense as it has been done and officials don’t want to hurt Strowman with another major loss. Officials also don’t want anyone kicking out of the F5 before the planned Roman Reigns vs. Lesnar match at WrestleMania 34.

At this time, there is no word on who Lesnar will face at the Royal Rumble.
