Backstage Rumor on Plans for WWE WrestleMania 38 Matchup
– As previously reported, Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar is still among one of the top four matches planned for WWE WrestleMania 38 in April. On a recent edition of WWE SmackDown earlier this month, there was a segment that appeared to tease a title vs. title match between Universal champion Roman Reigns and WWE champion Brock Lesnar. During today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that he was told that this isn’t the case, and WWE isn’t planning a title vs. title match between Reigns and Lesnar.
Meltzer added that the only reason WWE booked that segment teasing the match is that both men held the titles at the time, but that was apparently not the direction WWE had planned at the time. Lesnar won the title after being added as a last-minute replacement to the WWE Championship match at WWE Day 1. Reigns had to withdraw from his scheduled Universal title defense against Lesnar after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
You can see a view of that SmackDown segment with Reigns and Lesnar teasing a title vs. title match below. WWE WrestleMania 38 is scheduled for April 2-3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
