Backstage Rumor on ROH Having Talks With CM Punk on In-Ring Return in January 2020

July 22, 2021 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

As previously reported, former WWE Superstar CM Punk is in talks to make a return to wrestling, with AEW being a potential destination for the former WWE Champion. According to a new update today from Fightful Select, Ring of Honor (ROH) reportedly reached out to Punk in order to sign him in January 2020.

According to the report, Marty Scurll, who was a central figure in ROH at the time, asked to have feelers be sent out to CM Punk. Talks between the two parties are said to have not gone very far. ROH sources who were told of what took place said that Punk indicated that his storylines, general plans, and opponents were more important to him than the amount of money that would be offered to him.

There are no details yet on if Punk has signed a contract with AEW. Talks are reportedly still ongoing between Punk and a company official.

Meanwhile, Marty Scurll parted ways with ROH last January over allegations that emerged during the #SpeakingOut movement.
