Botched! 8.26.17: Big Cass’s Injury, Roode’s First SD Match, More

Big Cass on RAW

Hi, hello & welcome to the column nobody wants to be featured in, Botched! It was a busy week in wrestling, and a busy week for me too. I did so much stuff and made so many mistakes along the way it was ridiculous. I feel like there’s a connection between recent blunders and the fact I’m spending more time looking for wrestling botches. I wonder if Dick Clark & Ed McMahon found themselves making more mistakes after they started hosting TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes together.

Anyway, it’s been a crazy week and I’m glad it’s over. Let’s go into the weekend chuckling at some less than perfect moments.

1. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins Can’t Do A Fistbump

The Ambrose/Rollins reunion story culminated with a victory over Sheamus & Vessel at SummerSlam. Pretty cool, I thought. Only one problem…

D’oh!

Well, it’s like Dusty Rhodes said about Ric Flair in 1986: they’re living proof that white people ain’t got no rhythm.

2. Jinder Mahal Can’t Do A Cobra Clutch

Our distinguished WWE Champion retained his championship over Shinsuke Nakamura on Sunday in classic fashion. At 11:40 in the video below you’ll see his attempt at applying a cobra clutch so he can do his finisher.

Either Shinsuke had no idea what Jinder was doing, or Jinder got confused while setting up his own move. I can buy either one, really.

3. Big Cass’s Injury

This one’s a sad one. I can’t say I’ve been too impressed by Big Cass during his time in WWE so far, but you never want to see a guy go down to injury. So of course I’m showing you here because I’m a heartless bastard.

Cass gets hurt tumbling over the top rope at 1:10. He tries to continue the match, but eventually his leg gives out and the referee has to call the match. Poor guy. And poor WWE, as their attempts to bury Enzo Amore are kind of working but not really. Can’t blame that one on him either, Cass just landed at a bad angle on a self-controlled dive.

4. Bobby Roode’s First Wrestling Move On SmackDown Live

Bobby Roode finally appeared on SmackDown Live as an official WWE Superstar. After nearly twenty years in pro wrestling, Roode has hit the big time. Unfortunately, his very first move didn’t quite go as planned..

At 3:35 you see Roode attempt to clothesline Aiden English outside the ring to the floor, but it doesn’t have the effect one would hope for. Its a tough bump to take so I can’t get on English too much, but I have to say it was a little less than Glorious.

5. Bad Idea, Worse Landing

This one’s from July 1, but I think it merits inclusion here. Shouts to my guys at offtheteam.com that love this kind of stuff and pointed it out to me. IWA Mid-South is still alive and kicking after all these years, and they still got some guys doing some really crazy things. Cole Radrick faced off with Marcus Everett in a Loser Leaves Town TLC match, and I think Everett might have had no choice but to leave town after this one:

Give credit to Radrick for still selling the elbow drop, though. Who says selling is dead on the indies?
