– On the latest Something to Wrestle, Bruce Prichard recalled WWE’s attempt to buy the UFC around 2000 before the Fertita brothers came in and outbid them. Prichard was answering fan questions and was asked if Vince McMahon ever thought about starting his own MMA company. He revealed that WWE had been in talks with the owners of the UFC about purchasing the company, but Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, as well as Dana White of course, came in and made an offer WWE couldn’t match. Bruce Prichard stated the following on the subject:

“We actually had been in talks with Bob Meyrowitz, who owned the UFC, and Campbell McLaren and those guys, to purchase UFC before the Fertitas came in,” Prichard said. “So yeah, but he was looking to purchase what was the UFC at the time, which was no holds barred, a lot different than it is today. Now they have rules and different things, but it was a completely different animal back in the day. We had talked to them about purchasing them and taking over that company. Then the Fertitas came in and they just offered too much money.”
