Chad Gable Explains How He Dealt With the ‘Shorty G’ Gimmick

– During a recent interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, WWE Superstar Chad Gable commented on his run as Shorty G in WWE and how he dealt with the gimmick. Below are some highlights (via Fightful):
Chad Gable on his Shorty G nickname: “No, that’s never been a real thing and not an issue. The funny part about it is, when I was Shorty G for awhile, I was doing a lot of backstage stuff where people talk about it. Half the people I was doing it with, I was either as tall as or they were an inch taller than me. I’m like, ‘This doesn’t quite make a ton of sense.’”
On how he begged for a storyline opportunity at the time: “I had begged for an opportunity at the time. Anything, because I wasn’t doing anything. Who am I to complain if they’re going to give me something? I have to use it to the best of my ability. I wasn’t going to boo boo face it. ‘Oh, this is not what I wanted to do.’ It was something. In the grand scheme of things, we can look back on it now and it’s one of those things we just discussed, if you’re in it for the long run, it’s something I had to overcome and get through.”
On how he dealt with it: “Had I put my boo boo face on and took my ball and went home and said, ‘I’m done with this crap,’ then where would we be now? I’m in the best spot I’ve ever been in and it’s partially because of the Shorty G period. You can look at it in a negative way or you can find the silver lining.”
Chad Gable picked up a huge win last Sunday at WrestleMania 41: Night 1 under his El Grande Americano alter-ego. He defeated Rey Fenix at the premium live event.
