– Follow all of my reviews at this link.
– I wrote a column looking at the possible candidates for Goldust’s newest masterpiece at this link.
– I also did a Q&A over the weekend, which you can read at this link.
– Here are my takeaways from the NJPW G1 Climax.
– And here I ranked the NJPW G1 Climax matches from worst to first.

– We get the usual well done opening video package.

– We find Cage working out, and Catrina appears out of nowhere. She asks of he knows what the gauntlet is, and he says it’s his. Catrina says it’s dangerous magic that will take him over eventually. He refuses to give it up, and Catrina says he will hate the hard way; he trees to attack, but she disappears. Last week, Catrina met with Captain Vasquez, who has the other half of the same medallion. It was also revealed that Captain Vasquez was Catrina’s mother, kept young and alive by the medallion; it is also the reason Catrina is “trapped between two worlds” and can do her disappearing act. Captain Vasquez wanted Catrina to have Muertes take the gauntlet from Cage before the Great War starts.

– Dario meets with Officer Joey Ryan, Dario is embarrassed he lost so early in the tournament; Ryan then reveals that Veneno is actually Cortez Castro, who is an undercover cop. Dario then books Sexy Star vs. Veneno for next week, in a mask vs. mask match. Dario then boots Ryan from his office.

Prince Puma vs. Fenix: This is a battle of former LU champions. They work at a fast pace but are actually keeping things way more grounded than you’d expect. They then work into a big time striking exchange, showing great intensity, before working into a double down. Puma fights back, hits the head scissors and sends Fenix to the floor and follows with a dive. Back in and Puma stats to work the back and hits an enziguri, northern lights but Fenix counters into a RANA for a good near fall. Puma battles back, hits the 619 and springboard leg lariat for another near fall. The crowd is great here. Puma heads up top and the 450 MISSES! Fenix then hits the destroyer for a near fall. They work back and forth, Puma hits a springboard lariat and follows with strikes. Fenix then counters with a cutter and picks up another near fall. They trade chops, but Fenix picks up the pace, hits kicks and a German. He then about kills Puma with a running kick to the back of the head. Fenix looks to go up top but Marty is out to creep on Melissa; Fenix takes him out with a moonsault, but that allows Puma to hit a knee strike and Michinoku driver for another great near fall. Puma up top and the 630 finishes it. Prince Puma defeated Fenix @ 10:31 via pin [***¾] This was a very good, high energy back and forth match. While the Marty stuff adds to the feud with Fenix, it added nothing to the match for me and I didn’t think that it was needed at all.

– Mil Muertes working out is so violent that it shakes the temple. Catrina tells him to save some for Pentagon. Cage arrives ad attacks Muertes and lays him out with his fancy gauntlet. Catrina uses her magic rock to make Muertes rise, and tells him to break Pentagon in two.

Pentagon vs. Mil Muertes w/Catrina: Muertes made his way to the ring, favoring his ribs from the attack we just saw. They brawl at the bell, Pentagon looks to pick up the pace to avoid the power of Muertes, while also attacking the ribs. Muertes sent to the floor and Pentagon connects with a tope. Pentagon works him over on the floor and then rolls him back in the ring. He then follows with strikes, but Muertes hits a desperation chokeslam to cut Pentagon off. Back to the floor and Muertes repeatedly posts Pentagon before hitting a TKO on the floor. Muertes and Vampiro stare each other down, they work back into the ring and Catrina tries to trip up Pentagon, allowing Muertes to hit the spear. Pentagon keeps firing back but Muertes counters the package piledriver, but the code breaker gets 2. Pentagon looks to pick up the pace again, but runs into a snap slam for 2. Muertes now lays in clotheslines in the corner, but Pentagon hits the backstabber. Superkick follow from Pentagon, he heads up top after kicking Catrina away as she tried to stop him; Pentagon hits the double stomp on the injured ribs to pick up the win. Pentagon defeated Mil Muertes @ 7:41 via pin [***¼] This was an overall good match, with the pre-match attack giving Muertes a reason to lose, and the finish played off of that. I wish they hadn’t gone that way, because I think these two going all out would have made for a better match.

– Pentagon tried to break Muertes’ arm, but Muertes escapes.

Johnny Mundo and Rey Mysterio Face Off: Dario is out to hype the big title match for next week, because he loves when his wrestlers talk shit to each other. Mundo is out with security, and says that he is here to crush the dreams of Mysterio, who he plans to take to Slamtown next week. Mundo jokes about Dominic being bigger than Mysterio, and says he must have got his size from his mom. He even asks If Rey is really his father. They brawl, and the security saves Mundo as the World Wide Underground arrives to beat down Mysterio. Mundo curb stomps him with some assistance but here comes The Mack, Sexy Star and dragon Azteca Jr. to even the odds and make the save. Prince Puma and pentagon arrive and we get a big brawl between them, Mysterio and Mundo. Mil Muertes now arrives and Cage follows. Cage kills Mundo with a powerbomb and goes face to face with Muertes. Marty the Moth and Fenix arrive, battling on the steps while Mariposa joins in. Vinny Massaro and Joey Ryan randomly appear and brawl as the Rabbit tribe sits on the office and watch. Dante Fox and Killshot now join in the brawl, Puma then hits a 630 off the top to wipe out the pile on the floor. Mysterio then wipes out Mundo with the 619 to stand tall. It started slowly with Mundo’s promo and slowly picked up as he and Rey brawled. And then shit got absolutely insane as they did an extremely well done reenactment of one of the few attitude era thing I love, and that is the completely wild, out of control, show closing brawl that features a ton of guys on various feuds just waging all out war. It was chaotic, it was wild, Dario loved it and so did the crowd. This was an awesome and wildly entertaining way to end the show and keep the fires burning on several feuds.
