KENTA & Yujiro Takahashi defeated Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi @ 8:00 via pin [**] This was ok, but very flat with Bullet Club working a lazy heel formula and Nakanishi working at a glacial pace.

Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer vs. Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale: Suzuki-gun shockingly attacks at the bell in a spot of poor sportsmanship, which I apparently need to let everyone know that I mean that as a joke since I’ve only been doing the shtick for years but some people get upset because HEELS, and they brawl heads to the floor. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toa Henare defeated Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma @ 12:00 via pin [***] The idea of Honma working this whole tour is not a good one, as he tries hard but still comes off as a step behind and I will be surprised if he makes it all the way through. The good news was that the match was good, they created some fine drama down the stretch and Makabe event took a bump.

Big Tom Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI vs. Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi: Ishii and Sabre begin. Sabre lays in uppercuts, but that just pisses Ishii off and he fires back and gets an ankle lock until Sabre escapes. Taichi takes out HASHI and the brawl spills to the floor. Sabre starts attacking the arm of Ishii, and tags in Taichi. Taichi works him over in the ropes, and then stomps away at the arm. Big Tom Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI defeated Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi @ 12:05 via pin [***½] This was very good and easily the best thing on the show. HASHI was fine, but Ishii continued to be great with both Sabre & Taichi, and they worked the majority of the match, and I really enjoyed it.

The 411
Night one of the 2019 NJPW World Tag League was a perfectly solid and serviceable show, which will likely be the theme for the next few weeks. There was nothing bad, but also nothing worth going out of your way to see as the “standout match” was the main event, which was very good but nothing you have to carve out time to watch.
