– Follow all of my reviews at this link.

– I looked at “6 Ideas For Extra WWE Programming on The Fox Networks” at this link.

– You can check out my top 31 matches of JULY list at this link.

– In memory of Jim Neidhart.

– We get footage on last week’s attack on Aleister Black, which means that the Takeover main event is officially Johnny Gargano vs. champion Tommaso Ciampa… in a Last Man Standing match.

The Street Profits vs. The Mighty: Miller and Ford to begin. Miller attacks right away, working over Ford with strikes and tags in Thorne. Thorne talks shit as he lays in uppercuts, but Dawkins gets the tag and the Profits take control with double teams and then hit an AWA special on Miller. Dawkins lays in strikes on Thorne, and misses a corner splash, allowing Thorne to cut him off and tag in Miller. Miller lays in ground and pound and covers for 2. Miller takes the heat and isolates Dawkins. Thorne tags back in and double teams follow and Thorne covers for 2. Miller back in and grounds Dawkins. Dawkins fights to his feet, hits a boot, but runs into a spinebuster and Miller covers for 2. The Mighty follow with double teams, and again ground Dawkins. Thorne lays in uppercuts, misses a charge, and Ford gets the hot tag. He runs wild, dumping Miller and clotheslining Thorne. The sunset flip gets 2. Thorne cradles him with the tights, but Ford counters and gets the tights and a cradle for the win. The Street Profits defeated The Mighty @ 6:22 via pin [**½] This was a nice and solid tag match, with the Profits getting some revenge by playing the Mighty’s game. The tag team undercard is getting interesting with these two teams, and of course, the War Raiders waiting in the wings.

– Shayna Baszler meets with Aliyah backstage.

– Undisputed Era cut a promo and are in complete douche bag mode here as they hype their title defenses at Takeover. Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly say that they almost ripped Trent Seven’s leg off; O’Reilly calls him “Trent The Beast Severn.” I love that air guitaring bastard. Fish then takes the time to run down Mustache Mountain and the War Raiders. Cole claims that they don’t behind anything, because this is their era, and that’s Undisputed.

Kairi Sane vs. Aliyah: Baszler arrives to take in the festivities and join commentary. They lock up and work to the ropes. Aliyah talks trash and shoves her around. Aliyah backs off and then attacks, choking out Sane in the ropes. Sane quickly locks on a stretch muffler, Aliyah screams, and then makes the ropes. Aliyah fires back with strikes, but Sane trips her up and hits a blockbuster and another. The spear connects. Sane now hits sliding D, heads up top and hits the insane elbow drop. Sane back up top and Sane hits another. She hits the third and pulls Aliyah up at 2. The anchor follows and Sane stares down Baszler as she taps out Aliyah. Kairi Sane defeated Aliyah @ 3:57 via submission [**] This was a perfectly ok little match, with Aliyah taking her beating well, and Sane sending a message to Baszler ahead of Saturday’s match that she does in fact have a killer instinct. I loved that aspect of this.

– We get an Adam Cole vs. Ricochet video package.

– Velveteen Dream arrives to give us an experience. He says that EC3 thinks that he’s clever and charming, but at Takeover, it’ll be Dream over for EC3. EC3 of course arrives and makes fun of the Dream’s fanny pack. Not cool EC3. EC3 says he’s in Dream’s head and that he’s made a living in people’s heads before. EC3is ready to rumble, noting that they don’t have to wait until Saturday and Dream attacks. They brawl, EC3 counters the rolling DVD and stands tall after hitting the TKO.

– We get a video package on Aleister Black’s attack. It discusses the people in the video, our possible suspects. They are Johnny Gargano, Undisputed Era, Lars Sullivan, Heavy Machinery), Kairi Sane, Candice LeRae, Kassius Ohno, Jaxson Rycker, Wesley Black, Steve Cutler, Kona Reeves, Ricochet, Shayna Baszler, Velveteen Dream, Fabian Aichner, Marcel Barthel, Cezar Bononi, Tommaso Ciampa, and EC3. I now want a murder mystery type show on the network with William Regal searching for the attacker.

– We get an awesome Johnny Gargano vs. champion Tommaso Ciampa video package.

– Bianca Belair working out at the Performance Center, recovering from her “injury/honeymoon.” She and Montez Ford may have the most beautiful, athletic, and charismatic babies of all time.

Tyler Bate vs. Roderick Strong: Seven & O’Reilly are at ringside. Bate attacks at the bell and is fired the fuck up. He lays in strikes and follows with a knee lift. O’Reilly distracts him allowing Strong to hit a backbreaker. Strong lays the boots to him, and follows with chops and ground and pound before grounding Bate. Bate tries to fore back, but Strong hits another back breaker, covering for 2. Strong now works a grounded abdominal stretch. Bate escapes, but Strong lights him up with chops. They work up top and Strong follows. Bate fights him off and dumps Strong to the mat and follows with the flying uppercut. They trade strikes, and Bate is fired up and works over Strong in the corner. Running uppercuts and an XPLODER follows. The running shooting star press gets 2. Strong fights off the airplane spin, but he hits a RANA and a bridging Saito suplex for 2. Strong fights off the Tyler driver, and they trade strikes center ring, and Bate counters the Stronghold into a cradle for 2. Strong hits the knee strike and slam for 2. Strong hits another back breaker, Bate then counters end of heartache, and get a crucifix for 2. The lariat follows. Strong rolls to the floor, so Bate wipes him out with a tope. Back in and Seven takes out Kyle, Strong takes him out and Bate hits a KO shot and rolling kick. The Tyler driver 97 finishes it. Tyler Bate defeated Roderick Strong @ 8:30 via pin [***½] This was a very good, hard-hitting sprint here. Both guys are great and delivered a tremendously fun match ahead of their title match on Saturday. I AM HYPE.

Next week, Pete Dunne defends the NXT UK Championship against Zack Gibson. Nice.

– End Scene.

The final score: review Good
The 411
Tonight’s episode of NXT TV was an overall good go home show and a definite improvement over last week’s show. The undercard tag scene continues to evolve, we got some good video packages and promos, Kairi Sane showed off her killer instinct in front of Baszler with a vicious win, they continued the, “who attacked Black” angle, and we had a very good main event to hype Saturday’s tag title match.
