Silas Young vs. Kyle O’Reilly: Young recently earned an ROH Title shot, but before that, thy made sure to beat him on TV to ensure he’d stay just another guy. So of course after downgrading him, he gave O’Reilly way too much of a fight, especially considering that O’Reilly is challenging for the title next week. O’Reilly worked the knee of young, made it the focus of the match, so of course he finished with the brainbuster. Corino did a nice job on commentary, discussing that O’Reilly attacks many levels to confuse and open up his opponent. They brawled to the floor, where Young took the heat. Young getting offense is fine, but commentary needed to play up the recent Bullet Club attacks on O’Reilly being a key reason for that. Post break, O’Reilly fired back with kicks and knee strikes. Then attacked the arm before locking in the heel hook. Young made the ropes for the break, but attacked the am again. Young fired back with the cutter; O’Reilly then hit a capture suplex, only for Young to fire back with forearm strikes. Adam Cole arrived to try and distract O’Reilly, but O’Reilly hit the knee strike and went for the arm bar. O’Reilly laid in kicks, countered misery with the brain buster for the win. Kyle O’Reilly defeated Silas Young @ 13:00 via pin [**½] This was an average and rather lifeless effort, at least O’Reilly won clean.
– Post match, Young ran down fan Ultra Liger to set up Young vs. Liger at Final Battle.
– Jay Lethal cut a promo about his Final Battle match with Cody Rhodes.
– Cabana and Castle talked backstage about their match, which is next.
Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle defeated Ken Dixon and Preston Quinn : Castle hit bang-a-rang in under a minute for the win. Following their victory, Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle have words, playing off of their issues, which were highlighted last week. Cabana says he returned to become a champion, and saw a lot in Castle. He wants to go it along now, and they appeared to be making up, before agreeing to go their separate ways. Cabana turned heel and kneed Castle in the balls. Cabana took out the boys and then “stabbed’ Castle in the face with a fan.Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle defeated Ken Dixon and Preston Quinn @ :50 via pin [NR] Squash, leading to a clash at Final Battle.
Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia, and TK O’Ryan defeated Ultimo Guerrero, Hechicero, and Okimura: Taven is still wearing his Kenny Omega started kit. The Kingdom attacked and worked over Hechicero early, leading to CMLL fighting back and Guerrero picking up the pace to take control. CMLL worked triple teams as we took a commercial break. Post break, we got back and forth action center ring, with Okimura hitting a Michinoku driver for the near fall on Taven. Okimura was pulled to the floor and slammed to the barricade as the Kingdom took the heat. This New Kingdom was allegedly built in Taven’s image, which is solid but bland. The Kingdom worked a long and lifeless heat on Okimura, Guerrero then made the save. He jogged wild for a bit, allowing CMLL to take control back. Hechicero in for a roll up, which got 2. He attempted to work some submissions, but that got broken up. It broke down, as did the overall flow as they took another break. Post break, the kingdom took control back, attacking Hechicero and hitting a triple team powerbomb for the win. The New Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia, and TK O’Ryan) defeated Team CMLL (Ultimo Guerrero, Hechicero, and Okimura) @ 11:30 via pin [**½] This was a solid but completely unspectacular min event, like most of the six-man tournament.
– End scene.
