– Lio Rush defeated Jonathan Gresham @ 11:30 via pin [***½]
– The Briscoes defeated The Addiction@ 18:00 via pin [***½]
Lio Rush vs. Jonathan Gresham: These two had an excellent match for ROH back in September, but it has been lost to VOD land. Rush has been completely underutilized in ROH and Gresham has worked almost everywhere in 2016 (ROH, TNA, Evolve) and for some reason is not signed. Gresham is a guy that can work with anyone and would be an asset to any roster. Gresham attacked the arm heavily in the first match, and did so here but Rush was smarter here, protecting the arm and countering the offense of Gresham most of the time. Gresham was resilient though and got in his attacks on the arm, but Rush overcame, scoring the win with the big elbow drop after connecting with the Rush hour (Spanish fly) THREE times. This was a very good follow-up to a match that has not been viewed by enough people. Rush did a great job of changing the pace and style when he needed to do so, throwing Gresham off his game and completely changing the vibe Alex Shelley was on commentary and did a great job of working to get both guys over. His work was greatly appreciated. Lio Rush defeated Jonathan Gresham @ 11:30 via pin [***½] This was very good, with clean, crisp and quick work; this was the style and quality of match ROH should feature on TV more often. Rush scored a quality and hard fought victory and feels like a must see performer when he actually gets used. They also should sign Gresham if no one else will. When the wrestling is good, it’s good. This felt like two guys out there, trying to impress and also steal the show.
– Post match, Shelley put over both guys and the match big. I really liked that, the fans love Shelley and it felt like it meant something to them. Sabin arrived and put them over as the future of ROH.
– Kyle O’Reilly spoke about his history with Adam Cole and their title match at Final Battle. Really good stuff from O’Reilly, and the video package along with it was also well done. They needed more of this stuff over the last few weeks. The sit-down setting worked great as this was likely O’Reilly’s best promo ever.
– We get a Final Battle preview video.
The Addiction vs. The Briscoes: Kaz and Mark did some basic back and forth to begin. Nice pacing to begin, with Mark hitting a RANA and then a dropkick from Jay as Daniels tagged in. Nothing special early, but the work was clean and I felt the back and forth was well done. It broke down; The Addiction took the heat as they brawled on the floor. Post break, the Briscoes made the comeback, tossing Daniels to the floor as they worked over Kaz. It slowed to a crawl here as the Addiction took the heat, more floor brawling and then double teams on Mark. The Addiction worked a fine segment, distracting the ref and doing the basic heel shenanigans well, but it felt as if it was missing something. After the Addiction played the hits, we took another commercial break. Post break, The Addiction continued to work over Mark, who made a good comeback but didn’t get a great crowd reaction for the hot tag. The crowd woke up as Jay made the comeback. The Addiction cut him off and Daniels hit a great suicide dive. Jay fought off the Addiction, great fire from the Briscoes here, as Jay hit the Uranage on Kaz for a near fall. The Addiction worked double teams, Jay cut off the Best Meltzer ever, But the Flux Capacitor by Kaz counters the Doomsday Device; that was cool. JAY DRILLER on Daniels, Froggy bow follows and The Briscoes win. The Addiction defeated The Briscoes @ 18:00 via pin [***½] This was another very good match, with a well done closing stretch to close it out the right way. The Briscoes challenge for the titles at Final Battle, so he right team won.
– Adam Cole promo time, setting the final stage for Final Battle. It’s another sit down interview. Cole is sick and tired of feuding with O’Reilly and being linked with him. He became a champion and star, while O’Reilly became a “good wrestler.” O’Reilly is always a step behind him, and is content with his life. Cole then puts over O’Reilly, noting he beat them all, but noting he can never be Adam Cole. Great fire from Cole, discussing wanting to put O’Reilly in his place and move on. O’Reilly will eventfully have to realize he is a loser. They face one last time, Final Battle is O’Reilly’s final chance.
– End scene.
– Thanks for reading.
