Csonka’s WWE 205 Live Review 8.21.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik defeated Tony Nese & Drew Gulak @ 7:42 via pin [***¼]
Cruiserweight Title Match: Champion Neville defeated Akira Tozawa @ 16:17 via pin [***¾]

– Follow all of my reviews at this link.

– We get highlights from WWE Summerslam, and Neville winning his title back.

– I have the feeling that one day Vic Joseph is going to go single white female on Corey Graves.

– Pre-match Nese runs down the fans for never going to the gym. He’s what a premiere athlete looks like.

Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik vs. Tony Nese & Drew Gulak: Gran Metalik on 205 & Raw in the same week after being on 205 Live & Superstars last week. Nice of WWE to remember he’s under contract. Nese and Alexander (who have been feuding) are in to begin. Nese poses but Alexander picks up the pace, and takes control, hitting a dropkick. Gulak tags in, Metalik tags in and they double-team Gulak. Metalik keeps the pace up and hits a waxy lucha arm drag, and the ropewalk missile dropkick connects for 2. Gulak fires back with strikes, tags in Nese but Metalik sends them to the floor and hits a big moonsault to the floor. But back in the ring, Nese cuts him off and stomps away at him. Nese puts him in the tree of WHOA, but Alexander saves Nese and that allows Metalik to roll him up for 2. Nese takes Alexander to the floor, Metalik sends Nese to the mat and hits a high cross off of the post. He tags in Alexander, Gulak also tags in Alexander runs wild, hits the enziguri and follows with the springboard clothesline for 2. Gulak and Alexander work into a double down, and Metalik tags in and hits a ropewalk splash but Nese breaks up the pin. Alexander in and cuts him off, stereo dives by Metalik and Alexander follow. Back in and Alexander hits Gulak with the lumbar check for the win. Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik defeated Tony Nese & Drew Gulak @ 7:42 via pin [***¼] This was a good and dun match to kick off the show. They kept a good pace and I feel this is the kind of thing that we need more of on this show. Alexander picks up another win, and gains some momentum as well.

– Titus and Tozawa meet backstage; Tozawa is ready to win the title back.

Gallagher & Kendrick Meet For a Gentleman’s Duel: These two have been feuding for weeks, with Gallagher showing a more serious and brutal side. Kendrick has insulted and disrespected him. But sometimes you need not to be a gentleman. Kendrick appears on the screen and calls Gallagher pathetic for surrounding himself with props. Kendrick again calls him a clown. Kendrick won’t play with him, because he’s a fighter. But Kendrick has an opponent for him, a clown. Gallagher is not amused. The clown squirts him with water, takes off a glove and slaps Gallagher. Gallagher kills him with a head butt and kicks the shit out of him, grabs his umbrella but then clears the table but Kendrick attacks from behind and beats down Gallagher with the umbrella. Kendrick then powerbombs him through the table, grabs the mic and says they both got to beat up a clown tonight. Kendrick challenges him to a no DQ match for next week.. The Gallagher & Kendrick has been the weakest part of WWE 205 Live as of late. The Kendrick promos have been painfully bad, but at least we’re getting a possibly feud ending match for next week’s show.

– We get highlights from last week’s show, where Daivari beat Swann after TJP pulled out of the match and then arrived on crutches to distract Swann. We now see TJP playing video games with his knee brace on. Swann wants to know what the deal is, and TJP says he has an injured knee from his previous win over Swann. He came out last week to show Swann that he was hurt. He claims Swann cost himself the match to Daivari. TJP says their competition has gone too far, and tells Swann to focus on Daivari. Swann says he will defeat Daivari so then they can settle their score. I guess that will take place next week.

– Gallagher vs. Kendrick is official for next week.

Champion Neville vs. Akira Tozawa: Titus is out with Tozawa. They work a slow beginning, with Neville looking to target the previously injured arm of Tozawa. Tozawa grounds the action, working a cravat. Neville goes for some quick pins, as the crowd chants, “you are a wanker” at Neville. Both men counter kicks and then work to the corner. Tozawa lays in chops, but Neville stops that but Tozawa counters the sunset flip and lays in the kicks. Neville to the floor but walks away before Tozawa can hit the dive. Neville now goes back to work on the arm and shoulder of Tozawa, slowing the pace, but keeping control with ease. Neville continues to keep it grounded, looking to set up for the rings of Saturn. Tozawa manages to get a sunset flip but Neville hits a dropkick and sends Tozawa to the floor. Neville up top and hits a big moonsault to the floor, landing on his feet. The ref checks on Tozawa now, holding Neville back. Tozawa wants to fight, so Neville slams his arm off of the LED board. Tozawa manages t beat the count and rolls back in. Neville drags him back to the floor and slams Tozawa to the barricade. Back in and Neville heads up top but Tozawa cuts him off and Neville rolls to the floor. Tozawa fires up, and hits the suicide dive. They work to the apron, and Tozawa sends Neville back to the floor and hits the cannonball. Back in and Tozawa covers for 2. Tozawa then hits the snap Saito suplex, heads up top and gets crotched by Neville. Neville follows wit strikes, follows Tozawa up top and looks for the superplex, but Tozawa fires back. Neville doesn’t give a shit and hits the superplex, but Tozawa cradles him and gets a good near fall. Tozawa hits a desperation lariat, but Neville cuts him off again and hits a running dropkick, covering for 2. Both men struggle to their feet, Neville slaps at Tozawa, but Tozawa manages to drop Neville with a big right. Tozawa then gets a roll up for 2. He hits the running boot, spin kick, but Neville locks in the rings of Saturn. Thy trade cradles, and Tozawa hits the head kick, Tozawa up top and misses the senton. Neville locks in the rings of Saturn immediately, Tozawa taps and Neville retains. Champion Neville defeated Akira Tozawa @ 16:17 via pin [***¾] This was a very good main event, likely their best match overall. Neville being focused on destroying the previously injured arm, and then Tozawa missing the senton leading to the finish worked perfectly. It was also a nice nod to how Neville lost the title, as he missed the red arrow, allowing Tozawa to take advantage. I like these finishes because it shows that the mistakes means something.

– Post match, Neville runs down Tozawa for being a pathetic attempt at being a champion. He praises himself and is interrupted by Enzo Amore. He does his usual shtick and say 205 Live just became the realest show in the room and drops the mic. Neville doesn’t give a fuck about him and walks away. Enzo then calls him sawft.

– We’re about to see how good Neville really is.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

This week’s episode of WWE 205 Live was a good episode overall, with two matches that were worth your time, set up for a match next week, and the WWE 205 Live debut of Enzo Amore. He will either be a disaster in the ring or will learn to work by working with some of the really talented guys on the roster. This move has been rumored for a while.
