Csonka’s WWE Main Event Review 10.05.18

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Mike Kanellis defeated No Way Jose @ 5:15 via pin [**½]
– Tyler Breeze defeated Mojo Rawley @ 6:00 via pin [**½]

Main Event reviews are here for the millions of people that are dancing in the streets for hot and sexy WWE E-Show action!

– Follow all of my reviews at this link.

– I did a column, “Where Are They Now, The Cruiserweight Classic Finals Performers” which you can check out at this link.

– You can check out my top 36 matches of SEPTEMBER list at this link.

– You can watch WWE Main Event on Hulu.

No Way Jose vs. Mike Kanellis: They lock up, but Jose dances his way out of a side headlock. Kanellis hits a shoulder tackle, but Jose hits the hip toss and covers for 1. He misses a corner splash and Kanellis then posts Jose. Kanellis lays the boots to him, and then follows with the back elbow for 2. Kanellis grounds the action, Jose fights to his feet but gets slammed right back down and grounds things again. Jose back to the feet and follows with a flapjack. The corner splash follows and another and then a Finlay roll and splash follows for 2. Jose then hits a DDT for 2. Kanellis avoids the big punch, hits a superkick and neck breaker for the win. Mike Kanellis defeated No Way Jose @ 5:15 via pin [**½] This was a nice solid, and clean opening match, with Kanellis picking up a much-needed victory, even if it’s on Main Event.

– Back to Raw for Rollins vs. McIntyre. JIP as Rollins heads up top and McIntyre cuts him off. He follows him up and Rollins slips out and hits a huge buckle bomb and superkick. Dolph arrives for the distraction and the claymore finishes Rollins. Drew McIntyre defeated Champion Seth Rollins @ 11:15 via pin [***] This good and was going rather well until the expected and bullshit finish. I want these two in a PPV match, uninterrupted, for about 15-minutes. Post match, they beat down Rollins but Reigns makes the save. Braun arrives and the heels work the beat down until Ambrose makes the save with an axe handle. Braun cuts him off and the heels maul the Shield. Dolph, Drew, & Braun stand tall. The build to Saturday’s trios match continues. You can read my Raw Review here.

– Back to Raw for Rousey vs. Riott. JIP as Riott keeps things grounded, and then works over Rousey in the ropes and fishhooks her. Riott follows with rights and covers for 2. It’s all Riott as she slams Rousey to the mat. Riott follows with a head butt and STO for 2. Rousey counters the Riott kick into a fall away slam. Rousey fires up, lays in strike and hits a rough looking doctor bomb. Rousey hits her spinning slam and arm bar, and Riott taps. Champion Ronda Rousey defeated Ruby Riott @ 6:45 via submission [**¾] This was pretty good, they found a smart way to give Riott the heat and she looked good, controlling for a good while over Rousey. You can read my Raw Review here.

– Back to Smackdown for Charlotte & Becky Hype. JIP Becky then says that she has proved she owns Charlotte, but she still gets no respect, while Charlotte still gets special treatment. After Saturday, she’ll be on all of the magazines and she will be the face of the company. She then shows a new Super Show-Down poster, festering just her. It’s not about Taker vs. HHH, it’s about her. Charlotte arrives and they brawl. Charlotte hits a spear to boos. She then tort of tosses Becky into he poster and locks on the figure four and hangs from the apron as the crowd cheers for Becky. Charlotte stands tall. Becky was really good here, but it’s hilarious that the crowd refuses to play along with what WWE wants. Becky did everything including running down the company, legends, producing an over the top ego-inflating poster and still got cheered. They tried to make Charlotte the valiant babyface getting her revenge and overcoming “the heel” Becky, but the live crowds continue to treat Becky as their hero and Charlotte as their villain. I find it amusing. You can read my Smackdown Review here.

– Back to Smackdown for Styles & Joe Hype. JIP as Styles get a video from AJ, apologizing for not being at the show tonight. He felt he needed to be at home and didn’t feel like he could perform. He also didn’t want to do something he regretted, and won’t leave until he knows Joe is on his way to Australia. His family needs him right now, because for the past week, Annie has been having nightmares of uncle Joe. AJ says this will end it needs to end, and Joe won’t be coming back from Australia, because he’ll bury him alive. I think the Joe & AJ promos have been well done, but I also think that they’ve lost the plot a bit and that the match doesn’t feel like it’s about the title at all. I appreciate them making it personal, but they just aren’t talking about the title at all or making it important. You can read my Smackdown Review here.

32.40Tyler Breeze vs. Mojo Rawley: Mojo overpowers Breeze to begin, shoving him around. Mojo then backs off, but then attacks and hits a shoulder tackle. Breeze cuts him off and hits a dropkick and corner forearm. Breeze now lays the boots to Mojo, but Mojo cuts him off with a clothesline for 2. He then lays in head butts, and grounds the action. The slam follows, and then a corner spear and suplex follow for Mojo, who covers for 2. Breeze cuts him off with an enziguri, and then looks for a high cross, but gets caught and Mojo hits a gut buster for 2. Breeze fires back with kicks, and then cuts off the pounce into a single leg crab. Mojo escapes, Breeze avoids a charge and hits a RANA for 2. Breeze heads up top and hits a high cross, Mojo rolls through for 2. The pounce by Mojo connects and that also gets 2. Mojo argues with the ref, but Breeze hits a spin kick and that gets the win. Tyler Breeze defeated Mojo Rawley @ 6:00 via pin [**½] This was another solid match, with a good closing stretch and a surprising Breeze win.

– Back to Raw for Shawn Michaels Talking. JIP as HBK says respects Taker, but will always side with his best friend every day of the week and that upset Taker. Taker has Kane in his corner and HHH has Michaels in his. If Kane or anyone else gets involved, he will brush him back with some sweet chin music. Kane’s music hits and he appears behind Michaels and attacks. Taker’s DONG now hits and he’s magically in the ring. He looks to tombstone Michaels but HHH is here and rushes the ring. We get the big brawl, and the brothers of destruction hit chokeslams. Taker then tombstones HHH; he and Kane bail. I have no clue if Saturday’s match will be any good, or if the tag match they’re building to will be any good, but this was a really strong closing angle to close the show. One thing I know is that even in 2018, no one was ready for bald HBK. You can read my Raw Review here.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

This week’s episode of WWE Main Event was a solid recap/hype show for the WWE Super Show-Down event, hitting the main points and providing an easy watch if you want to skip Raw and Smackdown. As far as the fresh matches go, it was a refreshing week up upsets and surprise wins, which I appreciate.
