LAST WEEK, No Way Jose defeated Curt Hawkins & Chad Gable, Heath Slater and Rhyno defeated The Ascension, & Mike Kanellis; this week is basically a replay of that…

Welcome to WWE Main Event, the house that Curt Hawkins built.

No Way Jose vs. Curt Hawkins: They lock up and Jose hits a shoulder tackle. Hawkins fires back with a dropkick for 2. Jose counters a charge and gets the Thesz press and lays in ground and pound. The sack of shit slam follows. Hawkins quickly slams him to the buckles and lays the boots to him. Hawkins now grounds things, and then mocks the conga line. Hawkins then covers for 2. Hawkins hits knee strikes and a Saito suplex. He heads up top, Jose cuts him off, follows him up but Hawkins shoves him to the mat and hits the elbow drop for 2. Poor Hawkins is so frustrated. He talks trash; Jose fires back and catches Hawkins with the KO shot for the win. No Way Jose defeated Curt Hawkins @ 4:45 via pin [**] Hawkins drops to 0-218. They’ve had better outings, but this was ok. Poor, poor, Curt Hawkins can’t catch a break.

– Back to Raw for Roman Reigns Talking. JIP as Reigns says he was groomed for this, and to look out for sharks, especially drowning ones like Paul. He wishes him well in his future endeavors. Paul says he’s right, he’s drowning I the knowledge he learned from Reigns’ father and uncle. Paul shares a phrase in Samoan that Afa taught him. Paul busts out an agreement on paper and asks Reigns to look it over, and he can answer on Sunday. Reigns takes it but Paul maces him; Brock arrives and the ass kicking begins. Brock lays in knee strikes and pummels Reigns. The guillotine follows as he chokes out Reigns. Brock teases leaving and then returns to deliver an F5. That was a great segment, easily the best thing on the show, with Heyman absolutely killing it and followed up by a fun beat down by Brock ahead of Sunday’s PPV match. You can read my Raw Review here.

– Back to Raw for the IC Title contract signing. JIP as Ziggler signs the contract and says he’s done, but Rollins arrives. He apologizes for being late and had to listen to Ziggler’s therapy session. He’s been here for a while but wanted Ziggler to sign the contract first. Rollins says the travel issues weren’t his, and there is a clause in the contract, he’ll have someone in his corner at Summerslam to even the odds. Dean Ambrose returns and is looking “well.” They rush the ring for the big brawl. Rollins and Ambrose run wild and stand tall, laying out Drew. Seth signs the contract to close the show. This was an overall good segment to close the show, hyping the IC Title match, and Seth finally getting some backup in the returning Ambrose. Ambrose looked good, in better shape and with a slight makeover, which is a good call. It’s good to see him back, but hopefully, he and Drew aren’t too much a part of Sunday’s match. You can read my Raw Review here.

Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. The Ascension: Slater and Viktor to begin. They lock up and work to the ropes. Viktor lays in strikes and takes early control until Slater hits the flying forearm. Rhyno tags in and double teams follow. Konnor tags in and they lock up. Rhyno starts working the arm, but Konnor cuts him off with strikes. He lays in chops, Rhyno fires up and answers back and hits a shoulder tackle and dumps Konnor. They dump Viktor and then double-teams follows on Konnor. Viktor distracts Slater, allowing Konnor to cut him off. Viktor lays the boots to Slater, hits the Memphis fist drop and covers for 2. Konnor tags back in and double teams follows; the knee strike connects and they cover for 2. Quick tags follow as they double-team Slater, and Viktor covers for 2. Viktor cuts off the tag, tags in Konnor and he continues to beat down Slater. Slater avoids the charge and hits a neck breaker, and Rhyno gets the hit tag and runs wild on Viktor. He works both over, hits a belly to belly and Konnor makes the save. Slater dumps him and Rhyno finishes Viktor with the spinebuster. Heath Slater and Rhyno defeated The Ascension @ 6:55 via pin [**¾] This was a pretty good and fun match, with an invested crowd.

– We get highlights of the Bryan vs. Miz feud.

– Back to Smackdown for AJ Styles’ Summerslam Promise. JIP as Atyles says that Joe got him to lose his cool by bringing his family into it, and he felt he had to defend himself, and he got emotional. Joe took him to a dark place. But then Styles went home, hugged his kids and wife. His wife told him not to lose his cool and that he had to remain focused. Joe now arrives and pulls out a piece of paper, and says what Styles said isn’t true. He has a letter from a member of the WWE Universe. “Dear Joe I heard what you said about Styles and his family, it was disgusting and made me ill, because they were true. I used to be a Styles fan, but now it’s clear Styles never wanted kids or wife. Styles will do anything to stay away from his family and I hope you win at Summerslam so he can lose what he loves, because I lost him a long time ago, my greatest gratitude, Wendy Styles.” This was an overall solid segment to build to Sunday’s WWE Title match, I love Joe playing mind games with AJ, but it came off as a flat end to the show. You can read my Smackdown Review here.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

This week’s episode of WWE Main Event was a solid show that did a nice job of adding to the Summerslam hype by hitting the main angles well.
