Fightful recently interviewed Impact Wrestling talent Daga. Below are some highlights.

Daga on the meaning of his ring name: “If you translate the word daga, it’s dagger in English, like a knife. It’s something that’s small and fast and deadly. It means that I can be fast and contend with anyone and anything.”

On how he used to work under a mask: “I had a lot of ups and downs starting out in my career, but as you know, the mask is very important to lucha libre, I initially tried to work under a mask. A lot of names were being thrown around for me. There were plenty of things that I thought about doing. But at the end of the day, the shorter my name is, the easier it is for people to remember.”

On how his nickname started before he started training for wrestling: “When I started training, I moved around really fast and I did everything fast. Daga was actually a nickname that I had before I started training. That nickname was something I turned into a ring name. Afterwards, I started really liking it and I like the symbolism of it with the swords. I like daggers and swords a lot. It’s something deadly, something cold. When I say cold, I apply it in the ring because I try to be cold-blooded. I never let the emotion get the better of me and make me commit an error. That’s how it came to be and I’ve been stuck with Daga since 14 years old.”
