PWInsider reports that a press conference was held in Japan today by the DDT promotion regarding the launch of a new foundation to benefit the Japanese wrestling legend, Yoshihiro Takayama. The new foundation is called TAKAYAMANIA and will benefit Takayama and his family with medical costs relating to his recent injuries.

Minoru Suzuki was in attendance at the press conference. Takayama (age 50) was recently paralyzed from the neck down after being injured during a match last May in Osaka, Japan for the DDT promotion. More details about the foundation and ways to donate are available HERE.

A donation box is being set up at events in cooperation for all Japanese wrestling promotions, where people can donate to the foundation and also purchase Takayama merchandise. Fans can also transfer money directly to a bank account (see the above link).

Takayama is a legend in the business, having been an AJPW Triple Crown champion, IWGP heavyweight champion NJPW, and the GHC heavyweight champion for NOAH. The only other man to win all those titles is Kensuke Sasaki. He also fought in MMA multiple times, and his fight with Don Frye at Pride FC 21 is considered one of the best MMA fights of all time.
