According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the announcement of a merger between Impact and GFW was made, the deal had not actually been completed. With Jeff Jarrett out of the picture, taking a leave from the company and the fact that he still owns the GFW name, Anthem has dropped the GFW branding in all of the promotion for Bound for Glory. There was a sentiment against another rebranding and to continue using the GFW name, but that doesn’t look to be the case any longer.

The WON adds that publicly, the company line is that Jarrett will be returning, but privately nobody is certain of anything. At this time, the company hasn’t commented one way or the other on whether they will keep the GFW name.

The feeling is that the company wants to rebrand itself and get away from the negativity associated with the TNA name, and that as long as they are in Orlando, the feeling is that they are TNA wrestling. The long-term goal is to make Impact a Canadian company, due to some economic advantages, and also because Anthem is based in Toronto. This is why the Bound for Glory PPV and post PPV TV tapings were moved to Canada.
