Eric Bischoff Recalls Hiring Sid Back to WCW in 1999, Not Telling Arn Anderson Beforehand

– On the most recent 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff recalled his decision to bring Sid Vicious back in 1999 after he had been fired five years earlier for his infamous stabbing of Arn Anderson. Sid’s fight with Anderson in 1994 is the stuff of legend at this point; the two men went after each other in a hotel room with a pair of scissors, and Anderson was stabbed 20 times (and stabbed Sid four times himself). Bischoff cut Sid after several talent members threatened to walk if he didn’t go, but ultimately brought him back five years later in the summer of 1999.

Speaking with Conrad Thompson, Bischoff recalled that when he re-hired Sid, he didn’t have a conversation with Anderson about it because he didn’t think it was a big deal.

“That would have been me,” he said in response to a question about who would have talked to Anderson and given him the heads up. “I mean, it would have been my responsibility, I guess, to talk to Arn. I don’t know if I did or I didn’t, to be honest about it. I talked to Sid. Look, when that incident now — we’re going back to a different time here, but when that incident went down, Arn … I should have fired both of them, absolutely. And I didn’t. But again, once it was over, it was over.”

He continued, “I didn’t talk to Arn that I can recall. I may have said something to him, I don’t recall. But it just wasn’t a big deal at that time. It was water under the bridge.”
