IRS grabs the chinlock and he and Dibiase switch places locking in the hold when the ref is distracted. Knee drop by Dibiase gets 2. Hawk starts to fight back but IRS ends his comeback attempt and he hits some rights. Hawk overpowers IRS and Dibiase tags in. He drives his knee into Hawk multiple times and IRS chokes Hawk with the tag rope. Dibiase goes for a suplex but Hawk blocks and tries to power his way to the tag. He gets it but the ref missed the tag. IRS and Hawk clothesline each other and both men are down. Tag to Animal and he cleans house. IRS hits a knee to the back but Animal comes back with a double clothesline to Money Inc. Atomic drop by Animal sends IRS crashing to the floor. Corner clothesline to Dibiase and they go for the Doomsday Device but IRS breaks it up with a dropkick. They send Dibiase into IRS and Animal hits a powerslam for 3!!!
Winners- Legion of Doom **1/2 ( Solid way to open the show, as the crowd was molten hot for L.O.D and it provided added energy to what would normally be a run of the mill, basic tag team match between these teams.)

Ric Flair says when people talk of London, big cities, and the WWF they talk about Ric Flair. Flair refuses to announce who’s corner Mr. Perfect is going to be in and says he is currently in the locker room of the winner.

Virgil says he has survived the toughest streets in the world and he’ll survive Nailz tonight.

Nailz vs. Virgil
Nailz chokes away on Virgil in the corner and Virgil fights back with rights. Clothesline and a dropkick by Virgil and Nailz chokes Virgil in the corner. Nailz rakes the eyes and Virgil tries to roll him up but Nailz blocks and continues to choke away on Virgil. Nailz dumps Virgil to the floor and follows out to work him over on the floor. Back in, Virgil hammers away on Nailz and Nailz comes back with a clothesline. Sleeper by Nailz and Virgil is out. Nailz chokes out Virgil with a knight stick after the match.
Winner- Nailz DUD ( This was a squash for Nailz but Nailz is all kinds of awful. His offense sucks, he looked horrible, and he proved to be a lunatic and would not be around soon after when he accused Vince of sexual harassment. )

Lord Alfred Hayes tries to investigate where Mr. Perfect is and his conclusion when trying to open Randy Savage’s locker room is that the door is locked. He is Sherlock Holmes.

Sensational Sherri talk about how good looking both Rick Martel and Shawn Michaels are and says she got her wish with the no hitting in the face stipulation. Sherri says she is going to stand right by her man.

Rick Martel vs. Shawn Michaels w/Sensational Sherri
Neither man is allowed to hit each other in the face. Martel outsmarts Michaels early and Shawn comes back with a dropkick. Martel attacks from behind while Shawn was showboating and he stomps away. Knees to the midsection by Martel and he goes for a springboard crossbody but misses. Shawn works the arm and they take turns pulling each other’s hair. Martel dumps Shawn to the floor and Sherri checks on him. Martel follows out and he gives Sherri a hug. Back in, Martel hits a backdrop and Shawn tries an O’Connor roll with the tights but gets caught. They both attempt to roll each other up with the tights and they eventually go into the ropes to end that. Superkick to the chest by Shawn gets 2. Shawn hammers the midsection of Martel and Martel charges in the corner but eats knee. Shawn rolls Martel up and puts his feet on the ropes but again gets caught. Roll-up with the tights by Martel gets 2. They slap each other and Sherri is screaming on the apron. SHE FAINTS!!!!! Shawn goes to check on her and accidently knocks her to the floor in a funny moment. Martel attempts CPR and he and Shawn continue to argue. Shawn nails Martel in the face and they fight in the entrance way. The ref counts both men out. Sherri begins to revive as they continue to brawl. She sees what’s happening and then fakes fainting. WWF officials come out to separate them and Shawn carries Sherri to the back. Martel attacks Shawn again and he starts to carry Sherri out. Shawn nails Martel now and he carries Sherri once more. Martel comes out with a bucket of water and he pours it on Sherri!!! Shawn chases Martel to the back as Sherri freaks out.
Match ends in a Double Count-Out **1/2 ( I was really entertained by this. They worked well around the not hitting in the face stipulation and I always get a kick out of heels trying to out cheat the other. The post-match stuff was awesome and really showcased the egotistical characters of all three. )

The Nasty Boys are laughing about what happened to Sherri and then they start freaking out about not having a title shot tonight. Jimmy Hart promises them a title shot.

WWF Tag Team Championships- Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) © vs. Beverly Brothers (Blake and Beau Beverly) w/The Genius

Avalanche by Earthquake and he hits the powerslam on Beau. Earthquake knocks Blake off the apron and he hits the Earthquake Splash for 3. The Disasters slam The Genius out of the ring postmatch.
Winners and Still WWF Tag Team Champions- Natural Disasters ** ( This was OK. The Beverly Brothers worked hard and got the most of their limited opponents but the crowd was hot for this so it helped things. )

The Bushwackers discuss a future dinner with the Royal family. Yeah, there was nothing to this.

Detective Lord Alfred Hayes believes Mr. Perfect is in the locker room of Ultimate Warrior. He open the door but it quickly shuts on him.

Repo Man vs. Crush
Repo attacks to start and Crush ends that with a press slam. Repo bails and Crush follows with a clothesline on the floor. Warrior argues with the ref and Savage hits a knee to the back of Warrior, knocking him into the ref. Piledriver by Savage and as Savage is dealing with the ref, Perfect holds up Warrior for a shot with a foreign object from Ric Flair!!! Slam by Savage and he goes up. Flying Elbow Drop by Savage gets 2!!! Savage hammers the back of Warrior but the Warrior is getting fired up!!!! Warrior cleans house and hits the leaping shoulder block. Press slam by Warrior and Flair nails him in the back with a chair as he went for the big splash!!!! Savage goes up and he goes to dive on Flair but Flair nails him in the leg with a chair on the way down!!!! Savage is counted out!!! After the match, Flair and Perfect go after Savage’s injured leg and Flair grabs the Figure-4 on the floor!!! Flair goes to use the chair but Warrior takes it away and chases them to the back with it.
Winner by Count-Out- Ultimate Warrior **** ( Oh man, this match was so great before all the overbooking kicked in. The ending portion of the match focusing on who’s side Perfect was going to be on took away from what was becoming an excellent match. It sucks since if they just let them have their match and do the Perfect/Flair stuff after instead of making it the centerpiece, this could be up there with their Wrestlemania VII match in terms of quality. As it is, this is still very good and it came across as a mega fight with the entire stadium being molten hot for their clash. )

Mr. Perfect says a deal did take place, but with Ric Flair. Flair says he should have had the title shot and says Plan A to recruit Warrior past them by. They are Plan B and Flair declares the belt is coming back to him.

Leaping clothesline by Taker and he goes for the Tombstone but Chee attacks for the DQ. Taker knocks Chee to the floor but Kamala attacks. Kamala throws chest bumps in the corner and he slams Taker. Big splash by Kamala and he goes up. Second rope splash by Kamala and he goes up for a top rope splash. After all of that, Taker is able to get up.
Winner by DQ- Undertaker * ( They only got two minutes so it wasn’t as terrible as it could have been. Undertaker was stuck with crappy, gimmicky opponents around this time and Kamala was past his prime as a character and a worker by this point. )

British Bulldog says tonight’s match will be like he never knew Bret, who is his brother in law, and he hopes their families can come together tonight. He says his dream tonight is to become the Intercontinental Champion.

Bret Hart says it bothers him that Bulldog is going to act like he doesn’t know him. He reminds Bulldog he introduced him to his sister and he brought Bulldog into the WWF. Bret says Bulldog’s dream will turn into a nightmare.

They have a bagpipe band prior to the main event and they bring out Roddy Piper to play with them.

Diana Smith struggles through an interview, saying the Intercontinental Championship will never replace family.

Bret goes for a sunset flip but Bulldog blocks for 3!!! The place explodes!!!!!!!
Winner and NEW WWF Intercontinental Champion- British Bulldog ****3/4 ( This may be the greatest individual performance I have ever seen in wrestling. According to Bret’s book, Bulldog was incredibly messed up prior to the match, so Bret had to guide Bulldog throughout the match. This match was incredible with the crowd going insane for Bulldog’s win and Bret doing everything in his power to give Bulldog his big moment. Some things bothered me like Bulldog screwing up spots and Bret putting Bulldog in repeated chinlocks so he can convey the match to him, but this is a classic match and Bret putting on the performance of a lifetime to provide Bulldog with the biggest moment of his career.)

The 411: This is regarded as an all-time classic Summerslam but I was surprised by how weak the under card was. There was a lot of garbage across this card but this was a two match show and the main events were both outstanding. The atmosphere of Wimbley Stadium made this an incredible spectacle and helped cover up some of the clear faults all over the card. The main event is truly special and it is probably Bret Hart's greatest performance considering the circumstances. This show is an easy recommendation but again, the under card gets downright ugly at times, so you may have to suffer a bit before getting to the really good stuff.

Final Score:  8.0   [ Very Good ]  legend
