Jim Ross On His Friendship With Vince McMahon, McMahon Helping Him When His Wife Died
– On the latest Grilling JR, Jim Ross was asked about what Vince McMahon was like as a person. JR discussed his long friendship with the WWE Chairman and recalled how McMahon helped him out when his wife Jan was killed in a car accident.
Highlights from the discussion are below, along with the full podcast:
On his friendship with McMahon: “Well, look. Vince has overachieved his entire life in a big, big way. I got to know him very well. I still have great respect for him. He knows in his heart that if he needed me for anything that strong, that serious, as a personal favor, or just as his friend, that I would be there. No doubt. And the same goes for me. I know that in my personal life, if something occurred that I needed to reach out to him, I know he would respond quickly and positively. So I always believe that he has a very good heart in that respect.”
On McMahon helping him when his wife died: “Can’t tell you all the things he did and said, offered when Jan got killed. That means a lot to me, folks. It’s more than getting pissed off at somebody because they have a three-hour Raw and it shouldn’t be in your view.”
On what McMahon is like as a person: “I think he’s a workaholic. I think he’s obsessed with the company he’s built. I think he wouldn’t say it, but there’s nothing really more important or — more prominent. More important may be the wrong word. But more prominent, it seems to me like, than WWE in his life. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. But I think it’s a thing that is there. He’s hard-headed. We’ve had some of the most amazing conversations when we were by ourselves than I’ve ever had with any other human being in my life. So it’s just the fact that I figured out how to communicate with him, and he me. And we always did better, the two of us.”
