WWE Raw 82718

Hi, my name is Tony Acero. You may remember me from such columns as, “AJ ALL DAY,” and “Killin all The Bellas.”

We start RAW with Roman, because why not. He’s in the middle of the ring. He waits a bit for the boos to stop. He says that he told Braun he’d meet him here at 8:00, and it’s at least 8:05 now. He didn’t win this title to hold it, he’s here to defend it. He calls Braun a Meat Shack and says they’ll turn this into The Shield Workhorse Open Challenge, and if anyone wants to step up, they can come get it.

Here’s Brauny!

He questions the term of workhorse, considering Reigns had his boys come out and save him last week.

Reigns claims Braun doesn’t get it; The Shield is a brotherhood of work horses. No one tells them what to do, not even Reigns. They understand where Reigns is and know what it’s like to be at the top. Braun has no idea. All he does is run around and tell people to get these hands. The only thing Braun lifts with those hands are objects, though. Reigns hands have lifted every single title the WWE has offered. That’s why he is the guy and runs this yard, and if Braun wants to be on his level, he better learn to step up, act like a man, cash the contract, and have the title match now.

Braun says he’s not cashing in tonight. Braun says that Reigns and he knows that if he does cash in, Reigns little boys would come down to save him again. Braun will make him a deal; he won’t cash in until September 16, but all Reigns has to do is show up to the one place his brothers can’t interfere; Hell in a Cell.

They shake on it, but Dolph is here to ruin the moment.

Dolph says Seth stole the title from him. Reigns disagrees. Dolph says that he and Drew have proven themselves to Seth, Dean, and the entire world. Drew then says that Reigns and Braun, that’s a different story. Dolph says they need a new challenge, and that new challenge is REigns and Braun.

Before anything can be made official, Baron Corbin comes out. He says that everyone needs to slow down. Angle is gone. He makes the match for HIAC official between Braun and Roman. He wants to make a main event tonight that Angle couldn’t even dream of and one neither of us could have guessed. Drew and Dolph v Reigns and Strowman.

What a fresh and innovative way of building to a title match! Wow, having Reigns and Braun team together? That’s wild.

Braun reminds Reigns that at Hell in a Cell, he’s getting the title, but tonight, Dolph and Drew are going to get these hands.

Everyone leaves except Corbin. He heads to the middle of the ring. He gloats about being an improvement over Angle, and he has a third match to make. Tonight, it will be Corbin v Finn Balor, and it starts now. Isn’t this like the third time Corbin has opened RAW? Ugh….

Match 1: Baron Corbin vs Finn Balor

Lockup to start, and Corbin tosses Finn into the ropes. He hits a back elbow and knocks Finn on his ass. Corbin tosses Finn into the corner then misses a splash, slides to the outside, back in the ring, and hits a clothesline. Cover for 1..2..NO!!! Corbin holds up the Too Sweet thing. Balor dodges a third, Corbin rushes out, back in, but Balor ducks and hits a right hand to the forehead. Balor goes for a right, but Finn blocks, then hits a flurry of offense, ending with a stomp to the chest. Balor turns and rushes the corner with a hard chop. Whip to the corner, but Corbin reverses, Finn hops over, eats a boot, looks for a step up enziguri, but Corbin catches, hops off the 2nd rope, Balor moves, Corbin hangs himself with the ropes. Slingblade by Balor. Finn in the corner. He runs for the dropkick. Corbin catches him! DEEP SIX!!! Corbin grabs the arm, Balor hops over and rolls up for a 1…2..NO!! Balor grabs Corbin, but he has a chair!! Balor hits a right, another. He sends Corbin into the ring while the chair sits on the apron.
Finn sees the chair, considers his options, hits an enziguri, and Corbin drops. Coupe De —-NO!!! Corbin has a chair! He attacks Finn for the DQ.

Corbin stops the music and says that he has so many jobs that he forgot to inform us that this is a NO DQ match.

Corbin enters the ring and grabs the chair, then smacks Finn across the back. He drags Finn up and hits The End of Days. Cover for 1..2…3!!!

Winner: Baron Corbin
This was possibly the best match he’s been in of the last few weeks, but it’s still Corbin. Nice heel work, though.

Because this match needs to be built up, we get a recap of Triple H’s promo from last week followed by video of some legends talking about the upcoming match. People like Ric Flair, Christian, Mick Foley, Jarrett, and more give us some cell-phone interviews.

HBK will be here next week to pimp the match.

Backstage, Apollo and Dana are talking. He tells her that she deserves to be on the all women’s PPV. Titus comes in to talk about Dana’s match next. She will be facing…Sasha Banks. Apollo brings up that Dana has had one match in the last nine months. Titus says he believes in dana.

Match 2: Sasha Banks vs Dana Brooke

Lockup and she wraps up behind into a roll up for 1..NO! Another roll up for 1…NO!! She hooks the legs, jackknife cover for 1..NO! Dana hops over Sasha, flips forward, and pimps World Wide. Sasha ducks a hit, but gets hit with a kick in the head. Cover for 1..2.NO!!! Dana covers her and hit a few punches. Dana grabs the hair of Sasha then whips her into the corner. She flips with a springboard elbow to Sasha. She goes for another, but Sasha moves. Kick from Sasha. She heads to the top rope. Knees off the top and a pin for 1..2…NO!!!
Sasha gets hit with a right, then Dana fireman’s her, only for Sasha to drop and hit the Backstabber. Bank Statement. Dana taps!

Dana is still noticeably not all that great.

Outside, Titus and Apollo show frustration. Apollo goes in the ring to check on Dana.

Backstage, Seth and Dean are chattin it up.

After a break, Dean is standing backstage alone. His eyes widen as he sees Jinder walk up to him. Jinder senses a great anger and Dean lacks serenity. He can help Dean. He can guide him to spirituality instead of brutality. He tells Dean to close his eyes and breathe, and wonders what Dean sees.

Dean closes his eyes, breathes, and tells Jinder that he sees Jinder! He sees himself. He sees himself kicking Jinder in the teeth, and sees himself breaking Jinder’s face, breaking his ribs, and Jinder is crying. He is in great pain. He tells Jinder to get out of his face.

Jinder does his little chant and walks away.

Rollins is in the ring, and the crowd loves him. He likes where their head is at, and says that last week it was about taking care of some family business. This week it’s about IC Title business. Since Dolph and Drew already have plans tonight, his dance card is wide open. He’s thinkin Open Challenge, and wonders if anyone in the back is down.

Kevin Owens accepts, and the crowd is pumped!

Owens says that he is so glad Seth is happy and feeling good. He’s got his friends, his title, his crossfit. He’s on top of the world. He says that since Owens came back, his life has been a living hell. Every week he was on Smackdown, he wished he was on RAW, so things should be good but they are not. Seth had a great Summerslam, but that’s because he had his best friend by his side. Owens didn’t have his best friend by his side. If he had Sami, he would have beaten Braun and cashed in the contract and today he’d still be champion. Instead, Sami is at home because he was injured by some brute. He says this terrible summer ends tonight because he is not leaving this building without a title. This is Toronto, Ontario, Canada and he can’t think of a better place – oh wait, yes he can. Montreal, Quebec, Canada! Crowd hates him. Owens speaks some French to piss off the crowd, and Owens tells seth that he is taking the title right now.

It appears “workhorse” is the term of the week for Cole and Co.

Seth rolls into the ring. Owens hops in at 7. Owens in the corner. Seth hits an elbow. Chop to Owens. Another. Whip is prevented as Seth’s arm is in too much pain. They lock up and Owens hits a kick off the ropes. Owens hits the ropes, Seth follows. Slingblade. Owens rolls to the outside to get some air. Seth hits the ropes. He enters the ring for a third time, goes for another, but Owens stops him with a right hand to the head. Owens gets on the apron, Seth knocks him off, and Seth hits the ropes for a third suicide dive!

We come back, and Rollins flies off the top rope onto Owens! He goes for a cover and gets 1..2…NO!!! The frogsplash doesn’t get the win. Seth reaches for the ropes, but can’t quite make it. He drags himself to the ropes. He is about to grab it, but Owens grabs the arm and palces it underneath Seth’s neck! Seth reaches his leg out and gets the ropes! The hold is broken. Owens is upset, shows frustration, then comes to a realization. He hits a few hard strikes to the face over and over then stomps Rollins. Owens grabs Seth, lifts, hits a hard right directly to the chin. Hard slap to the afce, another right, Seth fires back. Slap after slap, bu8t Owens hits a right and sends him to the ropes. He goes for the pop up, but Seth hops over, goes for a powerbomb, Rollins gets flipped, lands on his feet, rolls out, SUPERKICK from Seth! Owens stands out of the kick. STUNNER from Owens! Backstage, Baron Corbin has taken over the role of Angle fully, staring at his phone for no real reason. In comes Braun who hands him over the contract.

We are back to RAW, and Owens is seated in the middle of the ring. Uh oh…

Owens says, “I quit,” then tosses the mic and walks out of the ring and up the ramp. He unwraps his wrists and heads backstage alongside the crowd while people wonder in extreme curiosity.

Renee Young is backstage with Drew and Dolph. Young wants to know why.

Dolph says that to change the game, you gotta make your move at the right time. Tonight, they saw a window open. Tonight, they’ll make their move to the top of the food chain. Drew brings up back to back title matches and says Roman’s body isn’t right. Braun is also weakened mentally. Dolph then says on top of everything else, Braun and Roman have a hell of a future, there is no way that team is right. Everyone in the locker room sees the big dog and monster among men as true kings, but not them. They see two wounded animals held together by pride, who are ripe and ready for the slaughter.

So nice to hear a great promo interspliced with dumb ass Dolph.

The Revival re-enter the ring and hit The Shatter Machine on Bo Dallas. They then head to the Timekeepers’ area and grab the titles. They grab the mics, too. Dawson says over the last two months, the tag team division has become a joke. They are sick and tired of these two morons making a mockery of the sacred history of tag team wrestling, so make sure they hold the titles as tight as they can because they just proved that they can take these away any time they want to. Top guys, ot.

We come back to RAW with Elias in the ring. He plays us a tune then asks us that all important question. He says we will be tested, and it will be tough, but do not lose faith and remember that the WWE stands for….WALK WITH ELIAS! Elias says that when Drake said he started from the bottom, he was definitely talking about here. He says that someone told him that there is no bigger disappointment in life than going from NY to Toronto. He speaks the truth.

Trish Stratus interrupts him!!!! OHHH SHITTTTTT!!!

Elias introduces Trish then says he’s glad to see her taking some time away from changing diapers, and understands because Elias is kind of a big deal. Trish says he has some real toe-tappers and catchy tunes, but when he starts running his mouth about her hometown….she’s going to have to ask him to silence your cell phone, hold his applause, and most importantly, shut his mouth. YES chant.

Elias tells Trish that he just speaks the truth. An Elias performance in Toronto is kind of like the Stanley Cup; they’ll never see it in their lifetime. Trish says kinda like Elias winning a WWE Championship…

She says that Elias is right; a lot of things have changed. When she retired as a 7-time WWE Women’s Champion, took her place in the WWE Hall of Fame, she would have never have imagined that they’re only a couple of months away from the first ever all women’s PPV. In just a few short months, she’ll be lacing up the boots and getting in the ring to take on Alexa Bliss.

Elias wonders if this will be a swimsuit model pillow fight, because he’s been looking forward to that for years. Trish suggests that Elias packs up his guitar, kimono, and scarves, and walk out. Elias just wants to cut to the chase; the reason she came out here is because she wants to walk with Elias. He’s gotta break it to her; he doesn’t date women in their 60s.

Trish slaps Elias hard.

Ronda’s music hits. She comes out all smiles, then awaits the presence of her buddy Natalya.

Back from a break, and Alexa comes out with Alicia Fox. She calls the three in the ring underwhelming, overhyped, and irrelevant. She waves to Trish, saying she looks fantastic. Yoga is working out for her, girl. Take some advice, though, from the woman who replaced her, and all the yoga, stretching, and meditating will not help her from the beatdown she will be giving her at Evolution. She is her et otalk to Ronda. What she failed to do at Summerslam, is what she wanted to accomplish. Her arm is not broken. Alexa is not an average woman, she is a goddess who is medically cleared, and wants her rematch at Hell in a Cell. She gets a diss in on Canada, and says “revoke” instead of invoke. She tells Ronda to enjoy this time because she is taking her title back. She then says this is about Alicia Fox and the beatdown she’s gonna give Nattie. In fact, they both have one friend that Trish knows all too well…

Here comes Mickie James!

Match 5: Alicia Fox vs Natalya

Nattie works the arm then whips Alicai into the corner, who hops uip and rolls into a pin attempt, but Nattie gets out and looks for the Sharpshooter. Alicia is able to use the ropes to escape. She hops on the apron and Nattie dropkicks her off then heads to the outside. Nattia heads into the ring and Alicia runs with a swinging neckbreaker that looks like shit. Pin for 1..2..NO!!! She gets a cravat from behind. Alicia releases then hits a big boot to Nattie. Alicia grabs some hair and rags Nattie to the heel side. Alicia distracts the ref and Mickie and Alexa beat Nattie’s head. Ronda and Trish come around to even the odds.
Alicia gets brought into the ring the hard way and nattie hits a spinning discus punch. She locks up the legs and gets the Sharpshooter. Alicia taps.

Backstage, Corbin is on the phone again saying that he will talk to Owens and get this whole thing figured out. A dude with a headset connected to nothing comes in and Corbin asks for a masseuse. In comes Lashley to talk about how Corbin won his match tonight. Corbin says it is what it is. Llashey wants to know what he’s doing here. Corbin says he hasn’t forgotten about him and gave him a match tonight against….well, he has a lot going on – he can’t think of the name, but don’t worry because Lashley’s match is next. Lashley is all smiles, slapping Corbin on the arm, sayin “look at you.”

Lashley knocks Conor off the apron and pulls Viktor into the ring. He stares down Conor as he hops on the apron. Lashley turns into a kick from Viktor and hits a press, but Conor got a tag and clips the leg. Right hands from Conor. Stomps. Conor drops an elbow to the back of the head. He gets a front faced headlock. Lashley lifts up but can’t get enough leverage. Lashley lifts up again. Tag from Viktor. He comes in and kicks then hits an uppercut. Another.
