Jordan Oliver on Forming a Bond With Alex Shelley, the Advice He’s Gained From the Veteran
– During a recent interview with Fightful, wrestler Jordan Oliver discussed the recently announced Jersey J-Cup being presented by GCW and Jersey Championship wrestling on Saturday, February 11. Oliver is set to face Alex Shelley in the opening round. Below are some highlights from Fightful:
Jordan Oliver on the bond he’s formed with Alex Shelley and Nick Wayne: “Over the past year; me, Alex Shelley, and Nick Wayne have formed a pretty good bond. I would say Alex Shelley has taken us under his wing. This is our first singles match since becoming pretty close. Last time was a triple threat with me, Nick Wayne, and Alex Shelley. I’m pretty sure I won that match [laughs]. I’m expecting a banger. I think we’re probably going to have an insane first round match. It’s always weird in tournaments when you have a crazy first round match because I’m going to have to look forward to two or three more matches past Alex Shelley. I want to have the best matches of the tournament, absolutely.”
On receiving advice from Shelley: “The information that he gives us, it’s a lot of like, ‘look at wrestling and see it for what it is.’ He’s a realist about the way wrestling is. He’s very like, ‘you should go to college, you should get a backup plan.’ His advice on how to be successful in real life with also being a wrestler. He’s got a really good actual job on top of wrestling. He’s one of the most influential wrestlers of all time. Every wrestler from 2011 to now, or maybe 2016, wanted to be Alex Shelley. Now everyone wants to be like Will Ospreay, but before Ospreay, it was Alex Shelley. Before Shelley, it was Shawn Michaels.”
The Jersey J-Cup show will be streamed live on FITE+ on Saturday.
