Kerry Morton on His Goals as NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion
– During an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, wrestler Kerry Morton discussed the environment in the NWA locker room, his goals as NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion, and more. Below are some highlights from Fightful’s interview:
Kerry Morton on his time in NWA: “Damn right, they have a ton of junior heavyweights. It’s kind of funny, too. A year ago I started in the National Wrestling Alliance. I’ve been there since December of last year. So 2021 and now we’re coming upon December of 2022. I’ve been there one year and I’m already the Junior Heavyweight Champion. They put a lot of trust in me. They gave me a lot of leadership. They gave me a lot of skill. I had a lot of good mentors back there, too. I give props to Nick Aldis. I have guys in the locker room, Matt Cardona.”
His goals after winning the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship: “I’m so fortunate to be booked up every single weekend for months in advance. Especially when cheerleading competition comes around, I slow down a little, but with them I have the opportunity to defend this championship in other promotions and independent shows,” said Morton. “Possibly, wink wink, to Game Changer Wrestling here in the foreseeable future and some of their junior heavyweights. So with that, I get the chance to wrestle. I’ve been around WrestleCade. I see all these faces and a couple of people grabbed me aside. Austin Aries being one of them, said, ‘Hey, bro. I want a shot,’ kind of gave me a look and then I happened to see EC3 grab me and say, ‘Hey, I’m close to the 225.’”
Mortons signed an extension on his NWA deal late last year.
