Kairi Sani Io Shirai WWE NXT 1-30-19

We open with a video package recap of TakeOver: Phoenix.

Io Shirai and Kairi Sane vs. Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir

Marina and Io begin. Io flips over her to avoid a grab, then does a cartwheel and backflip followed by a dropkick. Both tag out. Duke has a ridiculous height advantage over Sane. Duke takes her down and pounds away, but Sane reverse with slaps. Duke reverses back and Kairi does the same to opposing crowd reactions. Sane uses the ropes to help springboard into a rollup for two. Front face lock and tag to Io. The Sky Pirates work tandem offense, including stereo dropkicks. Running knees from Io in the corner sends Duke outside. Marina steps in front of an Io dive but eats a right hand. Duke clips the leg and hits a big boot. Tag back to Shafir for a body slam/takedown combo. They work a double team on Io for a near fall. Duke with a butterfly stretch. Io finds an opening but Marina gets tagged back in for a Dragon Sleeper. Io climbs the turnbuckles into Shiranui to break free. Hot tag to Sane for a running Blockbuster and Interceptor. Kairi walks the plank for the sliding D. Io knocks Duke off the apron. Io pops Sane up for an elbow, then takes out Duke with a tope suicida. Sane wins with the Insane Elbow.

Winners: Io Shirai and Kairi Sane in 6:40 [***]

A recap is shown of the incredible match between Johnny Gargano and Ricochet. Gargano captured the North American Championship with the win. Afterwards, Johnny was interviewed. He promised a MOTY candidate and a win and he delivered on both. Johnny TakeOver is a champion. He says winning feels great. He loves it. As he says that, he laughs and walks off.

Time for a look at Bianca Belair coming up just short of beating Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Title. Bianca was interviewed and said being undefeated wasn’t about a record, but a mindset. Shayna knows that Bianca will take the title from her at some point. When the ridiculous comments from Sam Roberts on the preshow are brought up, Bianca says she took Shayna to the limit and told Sam to kiss her ass.

The NXT Tag Team Title match gets shine next. The War Raiders won the titles from the Undisputed Era. War Raiders were asked about the win. They said Undisputed earned their respect, but that era is over. The war is here and the raid has begun.

Matt Riddle’s win over Kassius Ohno is recapped next. In a post-match interview, Riddle said he made a statement by making him tap out.

A closer look is taken at the Tommaso CIampa vs. Aleister Black main event from TakeOver. A tweet from Paul Heyman putting Ciampa over is highlighted.

The post show brawl involving Ciampa, Gargano, Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Black, and Ricochet is shown. That sets up the Halftime Heat six man tag coming this Sunday. Black, Dream, and Ricochet vs. Cole, Ciampa, and Gargano.

We get a recap of all the NXT stars to appear in the Royal Rumble.

NEXT WEEK ~ Johnny Gargano addresses the fans.

The Forgotten Sons w/ Jackson Ryker vs. The Street Profits

Harlem Heat inspired gear for the Profits. Cutler and Dawkins start. Dawkins takes him down but a quick tag to Blake. Ford enters to help out and all four men brawl. The Sons are sent outside. Once back in, the Profits use a double flapjack on Cutler that drops him onto Blake. However, things quickly turn and Blake stomps on Ford. Blake talks smack and gets two on a backbreaker. High knee drop. Blake wears Ford down until a springboard backbreaker type move. Dawkins has to make the save there. Ford avoids a top rope splash and crawls over towards Dawkins. The hot tag comes and Dawkins runs over both opponents. Popup flapjacks and strikes in the corner. Dropkick and back body drop on Cutler. Stun Gun and bulldog on Blake. Ford hits a sweet tope con hilo and Dawkins gets two on a spear. A Blockbustr/Electr Chair Drop combo sees the pin broken up for the Profits. Dawkins tags Ford and is pulled outside. Ford wants a dive but gets low bridged. Ryker clotheslines Ford and has a staredown with Dawkins across the ring. Before anything can happen, Blake takes Dawkins out with a tope suicida. Memory Remains (I think that’s the finisher name) connects to give the Sons the win.

Winners: The Forgotten Sons in 7:18 [**1/4]
