As noted, Friday Night Smackdown on FOX had a very controversial start. WWE started off the show with a storyline where it appeared Jeff Hardy was involved in a drunken hit-and-run with Elias. Hardy was “arrested” by police before he was released later on after passing his sobriety tests. Not long after the segment aired, Matt Hardy and Reby Hardy posted some noticeable comments on social media.

It appeared that the segment, which seems to be directly based on Hardy’s past issues with substance abuse, sparked some tweets yesterday evening by Jeff Hardy’s brother, former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy, and Matt’s wife, Reby. It’s being speculated that Reby Hardy writing, “I’m throwing my TV out,” was in response to the segment. The tweet was posted not long after the segment would’ve initially aired during the FOX Network broadcast.

Additionally, Matt Hardy wrote a short time later after his wife’s initial tweet, “Just to reiterate.. I’m happy to be working at @AEWrestling for @TonyKhan on Wednesdays.”

AEW President Tony Khan was appreciative of the praise by Matt Hardy. He later responded to the elder Hardy brother on social media, writing, “You’re one of the greatest pros I’ve worked with across sports, what a privilege it is to spend Wednesdays with you. Thank you for everything you do for AEW, our fans & staff & your fellow wrestlers weekly, as you not only lead by example but are so generous with your time & mind.”

This led to more praise from Matt Hardy. He replied to Tony Khan, “Thanks for those kind words. You’ve created an amazing, positive, supportive environment that I am SO proud to be a part of. I’ll give you, the talent & every @AEWrestling employee my best across the board. Thank you for the opportunity to be that great pro, @TonyKhan. #ImWithAEW” You can view the tweets they exchanged below.
