Mike Chioda Discusses His Current Status With AEW, How Much Longer He Wants to Ref Wrestling
– During the latest edition of his Monday Mailbag podcast with AdFreeShows (via WrestlingInc.com), longtime wrestling referee Mike Chioda discussed officiating the finals of the men’s Owen Hart Cup tournament finals between Adam Cole and Samoa Joe. According to Chioda, his referee spot at the event was a one-show deal, but he noted on AEW, “At least they’re just keeping me in mind,” adding, “Part-time there, part-time here and I appreciate that very much.” Below are some additional highlights of Chioda discussing the experience:
Mike Chioda on working AEW Double or Nothing: “It was good to see Steven Regal and everybody. Seen [CM] Punk for a little bit there, talked to him and talked to Daniel Bryan and stuff, Chris Jericho. It was just good to see everybody. It was like almost a family reunion over there.”
Chioda on if he still plans to referee wrestling events: “A lot of guys were saying, ‘Hey, do you still want to referee?’ I get a lot of signing requests and so forth and then they ask me, ‘Are you still refereeing? We want you to referee our main event match,’ or so forth. Cause a lot of people are thinking I’m pretty much finished, but I’d to at least a couple more years, two or three more years of this.”
