In an interview with the Mina’s House podcast (via Fightful), Moose revealed that his nickname was given to him by Michael Vick in the NFL. Here are some highlights:

Moose on getting his nickname from Michael Vick: “My rookie year in the NFL, Michael Vick gave it to me. He said I looked like a guy name Moose that played before I got there. Never met this guy. I guess he looked like me or I looked like him. I hated the name when I first got it, but it stuck. Everyone I played with from 2006 to now calls me Moose.”

On owning the nickname: “I don’t have a trademark, but I do own the name. Whatever company I go to, I own the name and can use it unless WWE, if I was to ever go there, decided ‘We don’t want you to go as Moose, we want you to go as somebody else.’ Then we’d have to figure out what that name would be. WWE, more times than less, will change your name. IMPACT and other companies, if you’re known by the name and have a fanbase, you keep it.”
