Fightful Select has an update on WWE’s interest in Will Ospreay. As previously reported, Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is “absolutely interested” in signing Ospreay, who is set to become a free agent in February.

According to the Fightful update, while many in AEW believe it’s a “foregone conclusion” that Ospreay will sign with the company, and that may have been true months ago, Ospreay’s mind is said to be open about his pending future. Additionally, WWE has reportedly shown heavy interest in Ospreay, and sources in WWE said there have been conversations and contact between both sides. However, the sources close to Ospreay would not confirm this.

The report also notes that WWE sources confirmed to Fightful that there is interest in Ospreay and “preliminary overtures” have been made toward the IWGP UK Heavyweight Champion. It’s not clear what types of overtures these have been. WWE did not comment on the matter in an official capacity.

Impact Wrestling (soon to be TNA), and AEW are both still interested in the wrestler, and both companies have enjoyed working with him recently. The nature of the deals being discussed with Ospreay is unknown, but WWE is supposed to be gearing up NXT Europe, and Impact Wrestling is going back to the TNA branding in January. This means both WWE NXT and TNA have plans to step up their presence in Europe as well.

With regards to NJPW, New Japan sources have said they’d love to keep Ospreay under their banner, but they don’t expect it on the same type of deal he currently has now. Currently, Ospreay is signed to a full-time deal with New Japan.

Currently, the wrestling superstar is scheduled to wrestle for NJPW through January. At Wrestle Kingdom 18, he’s slated to defend his IWGP US/UK Championship against Jon Moxley and David Finlay in a Triple Threat Match. The event is being held at the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2024. It will be streamed live on NJPW World.
