We reported yesterday that Lars Sullivan was fined a hefty sum of $100,000 for things he said before he joined WWE, in which he made racist and homophobic remarks, as well as disparaging comments about those with mental illness. It was noted that he will also have to undergo some form of sensitivity training. In the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about the news and the situation WWE was in, as well as how hard the fine is likely to hit Sullivan. He confirmed that the fine was “real”.

As for why WWE issued the fine to Lars Sullivan, he said: “There were some sponsors that complained and WWE felt that it had to publicly take action. I think that they had to take really, really strong action to keep him, because they didn’t want to fire him. so they had to do something that looked like, ‘we’re really sticking it to him’ to keep him. They think a lot of his potential.

He added that the fine is, “a lot of money” and likely most of or identical to what he made in NXT in the last year. He said that it was a “substantial amount” of what Sullivan currently makes and it will likely be paid in installments that are removed from his paycheck going forward.
