Multiple Wrestlers At September 9 AEW Taping Reportedly Tested Positive For COVID-19
It seems that Lance Archer isn’t the only one who tested positive for COVID-19 in AEW recently. According to Fightful and Spectrum Sports 360’s Jon Alba, multiple wrestlers who were at the September 9 AEW taping tested positive for COVID-19 in the following two weeks.
It’s unknown if the tests were taken at separate times or if the wrestlers were tested and diagnosed at either set of tapings. There were others who were said to be sick or showing symptoms but it’s unknown if they also tested positive. Some of the talent who tested positive were brought in for the most recent set of AEW Dark tapings. Since they are not contracted to AEW, they can take independent wrestling dates. They were tested before being allowed to enter Daily’s Place.
Several wrestlers were missing from this week’s tapings (including last night’s episode and today’s planned taping). Lance Archer is the only one to confirm that he had COVID, and said he thinks he got it from a family member. This news follows reports from earlier this week that NXT tapings were recently changed after wrestlers tested positive.
Alba wrote on Twitter: “Over the last few months, #AEW has by far had the most extensive COVID-19 protocols among any wrestling companies that chose to run during the pandemic. The conditions of how or where the virus was transmitted is not entirely clear at this time. Hoping everyone affected is OK. It’s entirely plausible talent were kept off this week’s show for precautionary reasons, and didn’t necessarily test positive. But we can report there were multiple positive cases in the past couple of weeks involving talent who were present at tapings earlier this month.”
