Roman Reigns Discusses Picking The Rock’s Brain on Getting to ‘The Next Level,’ Winning the First WWE ESPY, How This Last Week Was a Godsend for Him

– Cathy Kelley interviewed Roman Reigns following his tag team win alongside The Undertaker at last night’s Extreme Rules event. Reigns discussed winning the first WWE ESPY Award winner, going to the Hobbs & Shaw premiere with his cousin The Rock, and more. You can check out that video and some highlights below.

Reigns on what the week was like after his ESPYs win: “Man, it’s like a career week to be honest. Wednesday night at the ESPYs alone, I mean, that made the week by itself special. To be able to receive the first WWE ESPY ever, you know, to have the best moment of the year, to be able to present the best coach of the year award was excellent. And then, we just keep moving on. To be able to get a few workouts in with The Rock, ‘DJ,’ my cousin, and spitball ideas, and just pick his brain on just the next level, and expanding, and just progression, and life in general. And then all the way to the biggest day of, what felt like, my life – one of them, at least – was the Hobbs & Shaw premiere. It was crazy because I hit the red carpet. I did all that. It was madness. People were everywhere. We got in there, and we started watching the film, and duty calls, I got through about half of it, and then we had to jet through to LAX and get on a red eye, head back over to Philly, and to really just put a cap on the week, there’s nothing better than going out there with The Deadman.”

Reigns on teaming with The Undertaker at Extreme Rules: “There’s nothing better than going out there and feeling an arena full of wrestling fans, sports entertainment fans giving that full, undivided respect. When you’re out there with a legend, someone who is still at the top of his game — I mean, he showed it tonight. He came in just flying around. Just the old Deadman that we all know. Just taking peoples’ heads off, walking the ropes, scooping people up, Tombstone pile drivers. I mean, it was a blessing really to be out there and just to experience that moment with him.”

Roman Reigns on getting the win over McMahon and McIntyre: “And then, on top of this week, to be able to button it up like that, to bring it all the way back to me, and I think this wraps it up, none of this would have ever happened this week if it wasn’t for WWE. And for me to jet right back home, and to be able to do what we do, and to close it down, you know, close this week down with The Deadman, getting a big win over Shane and Drew McIntyre? It’s a Godsend. Thank you so much. That’s all I can say to all those who supported me, everybody who looked after me, all my support system, I’m so glad we’re back. We are here, and we’re doing it better than ever.”
