Rumor Killer On Ring Used For AEW Grand Slam Australia

A new report is shooting down a rumor about the ring used for AEW Grand Slam Australia. A claim emanated from a fan engagement account on Twitter that AEW had to be loaned a ring for the show because they didn’t correctly factor in freight times to ship to Brisbane. Fightful Select reports that this is not the case.
The ring that was used was an 18′ X 18′ ring, as opposed to the 20′ x 20′ ring that AEW uses in the US. However, the plan was always to use this size of a ring, which is the same size used by TNA and has been used in the past by WCW, ECW, ROH and almost every prominent independent company. AEW has never shipped their rings overseas and despite speculation otherwise, the ring aprons and the rest were scaled appropriately to the ring. It also was not a 16′ X 16′ foot as some online have claimed.
It’s not clear if the ring used was specifically the one that they had planned on renting, but AEW always planned to use a ring of that size. They have previously used a ring of that size in the US on some occasions, including for the cage match between Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker.
