Tom Phillips Defends JBL and Praises Renee Young
In an interview with the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast (via Wrestlezone, Tom Phillips spoke about his WWE co-workers Renee Young and JBL, the latter of whom he defended. Here are highlights:
On Renee Young helping him when he joined WWE: “Working with Renee Young – I will say this until my dying day, she taught me how to walk as a broadcaster because I’m in the studio and I’m like, ‘Where do I look? What am I supposed to do?’ She is in there pointing me in the right direction with all of that and I am forever grateful for her.”
On criticism against JBL: “Yes, 1000%. I don’t think you learn anything from someone that says, ‘Great job. See you next week.’ If you ask a stupid question, expect a stupid answer. If I go, ‘What’s he gotta do to win this?’ He’s probably got to pin the guy. Ask an intelligent question, you’ll get an intelligent answer from an intelligent human being. JBL is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever gotten to interact with. Everything he is doing on Fox News right now, a self made millionaire and then on top of that one of the most accomplished in-ring guys in a long time to be on commentary…JBL was incredibly good to me. I loved working with him. So, yes I think he gets a bad reputation.”
